More About This Book

Overview

The world as we know it is nearly gone.

There are the remains of it. Small farming communities that keep to themselves. Parts of cities, where life is seemingly normal. And where a new generation is beginning to wonder, for how long?

In one, Robert Larsen works at his desk doing what he has done for as long as he can remember. Outside the City, Max Wyse walks patrols in his exile community, wishing he had something better to do. They live in different worlds. There is no reason for their paths to cross.

Except that what Robert remembers is a lot less than he thinks.

There are things he will learn that will drive him from the City to join a handful of exiles clinging tenuously to the land. There are things Max will do that will drive him from his community, to look for an end among the silent ruins of civilization past. And there are people rediscovering the uses of war.

There may be an answer, a way to build a world. But first they have to survive long enough to understand the question.

This is a story of life after an apocalypse. But it's more.

It's about what makes certain people tick. People who step out of line. People who are unaware of boundaries. People who may fly above us, or ahead of us, or fall to their own destruction.

It's a story about power, and freedom, and why both are at the core of the meaning and beauty of life.
