About the Author

James C. Kaufman is Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut. He has won the Mensa Award for Excellence in Research, the Torrance Award, and the American Psychological Association's (APA) Berlyne, Arnheim, and Farnsworth awards.

Robert J. Sternberg is Professor of Human Development at Cornell University. He has won the Association for Psychological Science (APS) James McKeen Cattell and William James Awards as well as the Grawemeyer Award in Psychology.

Although marked as a first edition, this guide was previously published by Cambridge in 1998, with Sternberg (Metaphors of Mind) as sole editor, and again in 2006, with Kaufman (Creativity 101) as coeditor. This updated version brings together the scholarship of 38 researchers, teachers, and psychologists who over the course of four segments and 24 essay-style chapters explore creativity's complexities, from historical perspectives to contemporary theory. Each essay is followed by a lengthy, sometimes multipage reference list. This robust companion to contributor Mark Runco's 2006 Creativity: Theories and Themes incorporates several perspectives and is a vital resource for enhancing subject understanding.
