Booknews
The first complete edition with English translation of a substantial 11th-century collection of Latin lyrics that preceded the Carmina Burana. The international anthology, copied by an English scribe, includes many genres and subjects, but emphasizes verse that was sung including works from Germany, France, Italy, and classical Latin. The edition includes poems now thought to have been part of the original collection as well as some poems of Boethius recently recovered. Part of the full scholarly apparatus are indices to both Latin and English. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
