Overview

Having no regards for people, their property and even her own life, Faith Simmons has done everything from selling off her life’s fortune, to selling her body, and stealing, all because of her sweet addiction for The Candy Shop. Looking back ten years, who would have ever thought that this well-respected and very well paid thirty-one year old assistant principal for a performing arts school would trade in her six-year marriage, a two-story brick home in a gated community and a 2007 Jaguar, for a body riddled with track marks and a substance that gives her a better feeling than sex. When that candy, as she knows it, finally runs out; she resorts to the ‘desperate times calls for desperate measures’ solution; which will have her playing Russian roulette with the angel of death. And sooner than later, these episodes will catch up with her, so she will be forced to make some life altering choices, but will it be too late?

Talk about being heated this book is off the chain. Every page is gripping. The reader is given a very descriptive and slow descend of the life of a dope user. The main character "Faith" had everything that most women wants and lost everything. It goes to show that once you entertain a lifestyle filled with drugs, the roller coaster ride begins.

In The Candy Shop, the book brings to light an all too real look at the demise associated with drug addiction. The story reveals how lives instantly succumb to its devastation. Faith Simmons who is living what some may call the American dream, with her good job, beautiful daughter, beautiful body, a husband and dream car watches on the sideline as the candy gradually destroys her best friend's life. Faith Simmons, as with so many before her, sees what the candy does but for some reason believe that they can handle the candy and do not think becoming an addict can happen to them. As she begins to lie, trick and steal for the candy, she remains in denial. I like the book because it vividly portrays how quickly lives change and deteriorate because of drugs. I give the book 4 stars because the book is well written, meaning that you can see Faith's life gradually unravel and you can picture exactly what the characters are doing as if you were present watching events unfold. I, however, will not give the book 5 stars because another one bites the dust. Many have traveled this route before. This is nothing new under the sun. No matter how much money you have, beauty, smarts or popularity, if you continue to shop at the candy shop your life in most cases will be destroyed.

This book, as well as all of the other Kiki Swinson books offer story lines that most are too familiar with, whether directly or indirectly. I read all three wifeys, and the Candy Shop and could not put them down. they all kept my interest. the only thing that was disappointing to me was the fact that they were too short......

This book was not as enjoyable as Kiki Swinson's other books. Probably because of ALL of the misspelled words, punctuation marks out of text for the line/sentence. One of those books where you "see it coming" so you sort of know (guess) how it'll end. Really shows how being drug-addicted can affect all those close to you.

Although, it gives details of the life of a drug addict, I found it very boring at times and the ending just left me hanging. But it was the truth and can happen to anyone who isn't strong enough to resist the urges.

I came across Ms. Kiki Swinson over a Christmas Holiday sickness and a friend gave me an e-Reader and this book was on it The Candy Shop. WOW! I read some , put it down , read some more , put it down, it was some truth about the dope fiend game and dealer game that i have seen, it took me places I had wanted to forget i had seen in my YOUNGER Years some one just put it on paper. I have been incouraged to read other book written by Ms. Swinson because i have been a WIFEY too!!!
