Meet the Author

Henry Landis, a veteran of Iceland and the Omaha Beach invasion in WW2 grew up in Brooklyn, New York. At age ninety, and retired from his gold refining business, he lives on Long Island with Rhoda, his "bride of fifty years." Most of his life has been spent as a volunteer, first with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation which named him "Man of the Year" in 1980, and later with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary where he was honored as "Auxiliarist of the Year" three consecutive times as a crew-qualified boat crew member at U.S.C.G. Station Shinnecock, a Search and Rescue facility. At age seventy-five he received special commendation for his service during the recovery operation of the TWA Flight 800 disaster. Among his most cherished memories are his voyages as Radio Officer on U.S.C.G. "Barque Eagle", the Academy's officer-training vessel, the first Auxiliarist allowed to ship out as a member of the crew. During the Desert Storm conflict, he was denied a berth on a Coast Guard ship because "We can't send a civilian to a war zone." Not to be denied, he joined the Merchant Marine, assigned as Radio Officer on a munitions ship, carrying Patriot Missiles and Smart Bombs, the combined explosive power of which approached that of the first atom bomb. His life has been a tapestry, adorned with adventure and blessed with six grandchildren. He regards this, his first novel, yet another challenge.....that of crafting a fantasy which will not cause the reader's eyes to glaze over.
