Overview

The port of Miami brings in millions of dollars' worth of cocaine every year, and the Cartel controls eighty percent of it. The Diamond family is a force to be reckoned with, but all hell breaks loose when they lose their leader. The most ruthless gangster Miami has ever seen, Carter Diamond leaves behind a wife, twin sons, a daughter, and a secret -- his illegitimate son, Carter Jones. When young Carter learns of his father's death, he comes to town and is introduced to the legacy of the Cartel.

Miamor is a woman who uses her beauty to enhance her skill as a contract killer. She is the leader of the Murder Mamas. When her crew is hired to take down the Cartel, they slip up, and Miamor loses her sister in the process. She is determined to get revenge. Unknowingly, she meets the son of Carter Diamond -- and he immediately catches her heart. She is sleeping with the enemy, and when she finds out, she is torn between love and revenge. Young Carter and Miamor lead two different lifestyles. They are on opposing teams, and when their worlds collide, the truth will be unveiled in an unpredictable ending.

my children and i never agree on books but all 3 of us read this book within 2 days. i sometimes work 10 hour days and they are both full time students w/after school activities and chores but we found every available second to read it.. fantastic work!! ashley and jaquavis are great together. they may venture out to do some work on apart but please continue to team-up and indulge us with your wonderful and dramatic style. this book is not for the church going, suburbians. this book is full of suspense and a definite thriller. DRUGS, POWER, DEATH and THUG LOVE. the male characters are the type of men that most women want in their lives, rugged, handsome, sexy and can handle their business.. the kind that make you weak in the knees by him just looking at you. Now there were parts of the book that caught you off guard based on how intense the drama was but you would became more captivated waiting to see who would make the next move and how.

"The Cartel" falls between the good, the bad and the ugly. Using the street lit handbook and a predictable plot line, this novel will have you glued to your seat. Someone younger or newer to the genre would welcome the mixture of drama and violence and enjoy this novel. For me, those are the exact problems I found with this novel. This difference in opinion simply could be chalked up to my reading resume. I've read a lot and at this point I expect a little more, particularly creativity and originality. Realism doesn't hurt either. "The Cartel" will have some readers enthralled. For those who crave a little more depth, it's an okay read - nothing new or exceptional but readable. Reviewed by: Taye

I was really torn between giving this book one and two stars, because it's really not very good. That said, if you are looking for something to preoccupy your time and entertain you a bit when you are literally looking to turn your brain OFF, this is not too bad. So I found this book when it was recommended for readers who enjoyed "The Coldest Winter Ever", which is beyond laughable because about the only thing the two have in common is some drug dealers. Where "Winter"'s characters (even the most ratchet) had depth and substance and were well-written, the characters in this book are shallow and predictable. The plot has holes big enough to sail the Titanic through, and the writing is downright poor. I am honestly convinced that all the people leaving rave reviews for this book are 16 and under because that's about the age when I would have been riveted by the continuous sexual imagery and dramatic violence. As I was TRYING to get through this book, I found myself wondering just how old these authors were! Was this actually written by adults???  Final word: For a mature reader who is looking for something thought-provoking and substantial within the genre, you should definitely pass on this one. Sorry!
