All Music Guide - Jim Smith
Fans looking for more than ASV/Living Era's Wildwood Flower collection but scared off by Bear Family's massive 12-disc box could comfortably pick up this five-disc budget compilation. At 126 songs, it covers all of their RCA Victor recordings in chronological order, omitting only alternate takes. The remastering isn't necessarily better than other Carter Family issues -- rather than clean up the crackle, the engineers have simply boosted the sound level, and while that does bring out some nuances, the ever-present hiss is louder than usual. That and the scanty liner notes mean that casual fans could probably do perfectly well with Wildwood Flower, but this music is going to ...

"The Carter Family"...not the Cool Country for all !

This collection of real American Roots Music performed by the Carters(A.P.,Sara & Maybelle)is in my opinion the finest early country music that can be found. If you are as I am a lover of REAL country music (not this new stuff that half naked girls sing on so called country music videos)this is the set to own.If your music collection consists of names like Moon Mulligan,Milton Brown,Jimmie Rodgers and Spade Cooley then you are sure to cherish this set. No one can top Sara Carter for her Clinch Mt. type of vocals,as well as the mastered guitar strumming of Mabelle. When A.P.Carter wrote most of these songs he set the real standard for the real classic sound of Country music, often copied but never duplicated. This set along with the 1935-1941 collection is a real must for the lover of real country. Both of these sets are a real bargin at around $60.00 bucks togeather. This will truly be some of the wisest money ever spent !
