About the Author

William L. Sullivan is the author of seven novels and a dozen nonfiction books. A list of his books, speaking engagements, and favorite adventures is at www.oregonhiking.com.
Sullivan completed his B.A. degree in English at Cornell University under Alison Lurie, studied linguistics at German's Heidelberg University, and finished an M.A. in German at the University of Oregon. He reads in half a dozen languages, plays the pipe organ, enjoys backcountry ski expeditions, and volunteers to promote libraries. He and his wife Janell Sorensen live in Eugene, Oregon.
After backpacking more than a thousand miles across Oregon's wilderness in 1985, Sullivan published Listening for Coyote, a journal that capped the New York Times' year-end review of travel books and has since been chosen one of Oregon's "100 Books."
