Editorial Reviews

The Weekend Australian
"Greenwood's prose has a dagger in its garter; her hero is raunchy and promiscuous in the best sense."
Publishers Weekly
In this second light, 1920s-set historical to be published in the U.S. from Australian author Greenwood (Murder in Montparnasse, etc.), iconoclastic feminist sleuth Phyrne Fisher's eclectic household, which includes her Chinese lover, Lin Chung, is expanded by the arrival of her domineering younger sister, the "Hon. Miss Eliza Fisher," apparently banished from England by their stern father. A pleasure trip to a local amusement park turns nasty when a ride on the Ghost Train produces an ancient and mummified corpse, complete with bullet wound. The probe into this long-ago murder becomes more than academic when Phyrne and her friends receive death threats and are the target of several attacks. The trail may intertwine with Chung's quest for the solution to another old mystery the theft of a large amount of gold in 1857. While the coincidences pile up a little high, the appealing characters and witty banter make for an enjoyable caper. (Sept. 28) Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
From the Publisher
"Greenwood weaves historical data into the plot like gold thread, giving it richness without weighing it down. As always, the highlight of the series is the sexy and sybaritic Phryne, whose kind heart and generous spirit far outweigh her slightly scandalous behavior." —Booklist

"The success of Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs books may help pave the way for Phryne Fisher, who is an equally unforgettable character, with a heart as big as her pocketbook, a fine disregard for convention and an insatiable appetite for life." —Denver Post

Meet the Author

Kerry Greenwood was born in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray and after wandering far and wide, she returned to live there. She has degrees in English and Law from Melbourne University and was admitted to the legal profession on the 1st April 1982, a day which she finds both soothing and significant. Kerry has written twenty novels, a number of plays, including The Troubadours with Stephen D'Arcy, is an award-winning children's writer and has edited and contributed to several anthologies. The Phryne Fisher series (pronounced Fry-knee, to rhyme with briny) began in 1989 with Cocaine Blues which was a great success. Kerry has written sixteen books in this series with no sign yet of Miss Fisher hanging up her pearl-handled pistol. Kerry says that as long as people want to read them, she can keep writing them. In 2003 Kerry Won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australian Association.

    |The Moonpool|

On the edge of the clan territories is a cave whose entrance gapes open impressively. A winding tunnel leads cats down to a spacious chamber lit by a crevasse high above from which moonlight pours through. At the chambers center is a calm pool alight with the glimmer of stars. Here, Starclan has a strong connection and medicine cats, leaders, or other clan cats may come to seek their wisdom. However, they may not always receive the answers to their questions. But this sacred cave holds many secrets and Starclan may reveal some of the path among these stone walls.
¿
And now I will list the reminders for The Moonpool.

¿1. Medicine cat meetings occur on opposite Sundays from the gatherings. Medicine cats need to come! Make sure to rp your Starclan cats as well and preferably have them speak with their own clan's medicine cat! These are all day events! Have fun!

¿2. Only pact clan cats are allowed to use this place. Please be respectful and do not ruin it for others. We will ignore anyone outside the pact clans or those who are unrealistic.

¿3. No kits at The Moonpool please.

4. Remember at a max a clan could have three medicine cats. Feel free to have interesting and mysterious dreams, visions, or visits. But we do not need a ton of prophecies made by cats who simply want attention. If you want to make prophecies for others then I encourage that. Discuss ideas for prophecies in The Question/Discussion Box. But remember prophecies are very rare and special. Don't just hand them out like free candy. ;)
