Have you any idea what goes on in the world of cats? Dusty is a Maine Coon Cat who lives with his Dad Servant and Mom Servant (the Kellys), along with two other cats, Priscilla who is a Himalayan Persian, and Saja who is a black domestic, in an apartment complex in Columbia, SC. However, King Alfanso of the Carolina Realm of cats, who lives at the Columbia Zoo, believes that Dusty is the right cat for the job of defeating Coal, evil prince of the Panthers who has escaped the zoo in El Paso, TX, and is mounting a rebellion to conquer both cats and humans. Coal has captured several Maine Coon Cat princesses in an attempt to raise some kittens who will exhibit traits of both wild and domestic cats. On his way to El Paso, where Alfanso's brother Sancho is king, Dusty is attacked in Mississippi by some of Coal's forces but is rescued by a mysterious cat known as Master Seven, one of the legendary Cat Masters. Will Dusty and his new friends get to El Paso in time to rescue the Maine Coon princesses and save the world from Coal's plot? The Cat Chronicles is a highly readable fantasy story that is full of adventure and excitement, with allegorical implications, and even a little cat romance. There is a strong good versus evil theme, and Dusty is encouraged to make the right choice even when the decision is hard. The plot has almost a "David and Goliath" feel about it. Coming from a family of cat lovers, I recommend the book to all who enjoy good fantasy and/or like to read about animals.
