The Causes of Anti-Semitism: A Critique of the Bible

Overview

Using the Bible as primary evidence, with the finest modern scholarship as supporting evidence, Arthur Blech lucidly demonstrates that anti-Semitism is no accident of history, no tragic consequence of ignorance, or the influence of a few contemporary figures of unique evil. Blech argues that both Christianity and Judaism are responsible for anti-Semitism in claiming divine revelation as the source of their scriptures. By assuming divine authority, members of both religions felt justified in persecuting ...

By assuming divine authority, members of both religions felt justified in persecuting nonbelievers. In the case of Judaism, non-Jews were rejected as inferior to the "chosen people"; and in the case of Christianity, Jews in particular became the object of contempt because Christians believed that Jews had spurned divine revelation in the form of God’s son.
Blech carefully explores the foundations of both major faiths, surgically dismantling their claims to divinity. Since more than a century of scientific research shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Bible was not divinely inspired, but composed by all-too-human authors, Blech makes clear that the hatred and contempt these human authors preached have irreparably misled Christians and Jews alike. The Causes of Anti-Semitism shows that the curse of anti-Semitism has been kept alive by inventions and myths—artificial props to support the evil agenda of corrupt individuals throughout history.
This new paperback edition of The Causes of Anti-Semitism contains substantial new additions to the original hardcover edition of the book.

What People Are Saying

Helmut Bohme
"This book is exciting. It is a dramatic book. And yet its language is temperate and its formulations dispassionate. With great probity and concern this book takes on the problem of anti-Semitism, going beyond the context of the history of anti-Semitism and of scholarly inquiry.. It is a book written with great intensity, carefully researched arguments, and dispassionately analyzed citations containing a wealth of ideas. The book captivates the reader through the freedom of inquiry with which it is written and the maturity of its judgment."

    A Good Companion Piece

This is an especially poignant book. Now, more than ever, it is important that everybody take the time to read a work like this one. It is particularly compelling that a man who lost his entire family in the Holocaust is able to cast such a critical eye on Judaism as well as Christianity. In a way, the author offers both sides a way to meet each other in a neutral middle ground, with each side¿s missteps laid out clearly behind them. A solid background in the Bible is necessary for a complete understanding of this book -- both the Christian Bible (Old and New Testaments), and the Jewish Bible (a direct translation of Hebrew Scriptures, rather than the version of the Old Testament provided in the King James or the Catholic Vulgate), but it is a great companion read/reference tool. I don¿t agree with everything in here, but it will certainly get people talking and asking questions of each other and their spiritual leaders. And that can only be a good thing.

    Informative

This book will definitely cause you to question and re-think your beliefs. This is not a book based on opinion. The author has definitely done his research.

    A Triumph of Truth

Arthur Blech wrote a great book backed by irrefutable research. Any student of life will enjoy the powerful truths he uncovers in this important text. Blech takes on the leaders of the Judeo-Christian faiths in an unflinching expose of their lies and deceipts. This is a must read for anyone who wants to know how we ended up with the world we live in. There is no denying that the lessons of our past are MORE significant in today's right-wing religious climate. The message is clear¿don't let religious charlatans fool you into blindly following their dogma. Think for yourself! Thank you Arthur Blech.
