WARNING! This "book" is nothing but 300-plus pages of Wiki articles, and only about a tenth of those are actually related to Ms. Tyson. The rest is filler material. Example: the TV show "Gunsmoke" aired for 20 seasons, Ms. Tyson only guest-starred in one episode one time, and yet there are 17 pages of Wiki articles about "Gunsmoke"! To add insult to injury, this book doesn't even specify which episode of which season Tyson guest-starred in that one time, info you can easily obtain for free on Wikipedia.

The title is inherently deceptive: this book is NOT a "Spotlight on Cicely Tyson," there is literally ten times as many pages devoted to Miles Davis' (her former husband's) career, than there is to Ms. Tyson herself. There is more info about Sammy Davis Jr.'s and Paul Winfield's "Personal Life" than there is about Cicely Tyson's.The title says "Famous Television Shows" but barely mentions her STAGE career which was BEFORE her TV and movie career, and the TV shows themselves are analyzed more than Tyson (as has been demonstrated). The title says "Blockbusters such as SOUNDER and THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MISS JANE PITTMAN" but only six pages deal with these two movies, and other of her movies are out of chronological sequence or passed over altogether. Again, the book is nothing but 300-plus pages of Wiki articles but everything (and far MORE) in this book can be obtained online...for free.

I bought this book off of eBay because there are (sadly) no other books about Ms. Tyson. I knew in advance that it was all Wiki articles, but I figured that the 300-plus pages of them would at least uncover things I did not know about her, and I assumed the title was accurate. I also correctly assumed that the award on the cover was at least one of HER awards, but when I got the actual book it became clear that the fine-print inscription was for the movie "The Sting." For the record, Ms. Tyson did NOT appear in "The Sting" but ironically "The Sting" is the most accurate description of the contents of this book! There is nothing here in this book that you can't get for free on Wiki. In fact, you can get MORE info about Cicely Tyson on Wiki than you can from this book! Save your money! Don't be like me, don't get "Stung" because there are no other books about Ms. Tyson and you want to know more about this amazing and inspirational woman. The synopsis on the back cover of this book says "The role of the book within our culture is constantly changing" but the role of TITLES of books will NEVER change. Titles are supposed to ACCURATELY convey the contents of the book, otherwise they are false advertising. THE TITLE OF THIS BOOK IS FALSE ADVERTISING. Don't be a dummy like I was...don't assume that the book honors Cicely Tyson because of the bogus title and the PHOTO. Don't find out you got "Stung" when you get the book in your hands! If I could leave a Rating of MINUS 5 stars, I would!
