Overview

Death, Life, or Love—Unbounded Always Play for Keeps.

There are only two ways to kill Unbounded, and fire isn’t one of them—as law school dropout Erin Radkey learns the hard way. By fluke of a recessive gene, she has become Unbounded, a nearly immortal being with paranormal abilities.

Erin’s Change separates her from her loved ones and alters everything she believes to be true. A week earlier she was considering a marriage proposal; now she contemplates the best way to stay alive. Caught in a battle between two Unbounded groups, the Emporium and the Renegades, she is also hunted by a secret mortal society sworn to eradicate the Unbounded gene.

As Erin plunges into this dangerous new life, she must carve out her own place in the madness, protect her mortal family, and decide which group she should join. Her unique ability is vital to both groups in the race to secure an identification software that spells death for all Unbounded—or enslavement for the entire mortal world. Some will stop at nothing to use Erin as one more pawn in a battle that has spanned centuries. Erin’s undeniable attraction to Ritter Langton, whose family was massacred by opposing Unbounded two hundred and forty years ago, complicates her choices. There are no second chances. Death, life, or love—Unbounded always play for keeps.

Non-stop action, terrifying consequences, and powerful romance make The Change an exciting addition to the world of romantic urban fantasy.

After reading the overview, and doing some quick research on Teyla Branton, I decided to give this book a try. At first glance, the conceptual idea was appealing, although it is similar to many other books out there involving immortality, it appeared unique in its overall presentation. The author’s writing style had a pretty decent flow. However, as I have found with other breakout authors, there were a few sentences that popped up and disrupted the flow and structure of how the book is read. This is something I believe is self corrected through time, experience, and a good editor. The characters were interesting and believable. Their descriptions were simple enough to allow the reader’s imagination to fill in the blanks, but specific enough to differentiate between them. Their personalities were also very distinct, allowing conversations to flow easily from one character to the next without confusion.  I thought the plot was excellent. I enjoyed following Erin as she discovered that she was unbounded and what that truly meant, discovering her new self and her origins. I was drawn in by the action packed altercations with the Emporium and the Hunters. Erin’s connection to her family was endearing and her attraction to Ritter was definitely amusing.   I am giving this book 3 stars; I thought it was fairly well written, outside of a few inconsistencies within the sentence structure and flow of the story, I really enjoyed this book. I think that Teyla has a great deal of talent and with time and experience can be a great Young Adult Paranormal author. I am looking forward to reading the sequels, I am anxious to see where the story eventually leads!

4.75! Read the BOOK! I bought this on a whim browsing for something to read late last night. Less than 24 hours later I'm back for book two, and I actually got OUT of the bathtub to get into wifi range to do so. Believe me, that is unprecedented. A few bits annoyed me in the first 50-75 pages, thus the 1/4 star off, but it only got better and better from there on out. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go read The Cure (book 2).

I really enjoyed this book. Fast action, a little romance, no bad language and no explicit sex.

Well written, engrossing, great plot, well rounded characters. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I hope there are many more. A complete story in itself yet leaving plenty of room for future additions. I highly recommend.

Although, at times, I thought this was more for the younger readers, I did enjoy this book. I will look forward to reading the seqels, now that I am hooked.

The first chapter was fine. It was down hill from there. Then on page 108, "I've lived in a lot of places, but being a southern belle was fun. The beautiful dresses, the servants, ....... the big plantations. Of course we always treated our "workers" well. It was a simpler time-until the war. Really! The reply....."I wish I could have seen it." Even in the world of fiction, what did this character learn about slavery.
