Overview

In these Cornell Messenger Lectures, Richard Feynman offers an overview of selectedphysical laws and gathers their common features into one broad principle ofinvariance. He maintains that the importance of a physical law is not "howclever we are to have found it out but...how clever nature is to pay attention toit" and steers his discussions toward a final exposition of the elegance andsimplicity of all scientific laws. Rather than an essay on the most significantachievements in modern science, TheCharacter of Physical Law is a statement of what is most remarkable innature.

Dr Feynman's reputation for making fundamental concept of modern physics is well deserved. These lectures are an easy, accessible read which clearly explain the substance of physical laws - including quantum mechanics - without requiring mathematical knowledge. In spite of this, this is not a 'dumbed down' popularization. These are substantive lectures. You need to have a basic ability to read, understand, and think through Feynman's explanations. I enjoyed it very much.
