Meet the Author

Vici Howard has been writing since she was a young girl. One of her best gifts as a child was an old hand-me-down typewriter her Uncle Bubba gave her when she was thirteen years old. She is inspired by the genius of her favorite author; Dr. Seuss. She graduated from Columbia College in Chicago majoring in Film production. It wasn’t until years later that she realized she went to college for the wrong darn major and returned to her first love, writing. Oh well, better late than never.
Her writing style is honest and down to Earth and wishes to share her love of storytelling to anyone, she can bribe into listening.
She lives in a small suburb outside of Chicago with her husband and has managed to successfully raise two children without any signs of permanent brain damage. She loves eating ethnic cuisine and traveling. Her long-term goals are to enjoy a great meal on every continent and to write a novel every year for the rest of her life while living in a beach house somewhere in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Boys P.O.V. What's better than that?

Okay, the cover through me off. I saw this book laying around my friend's room and the cover looked really fun and interesting so I asked to read it. I thought it was going to be an easy book but when I got into it there was a lot of heavy duty drama, like molestation, peer pressure and sexting. The main character is Grant a supposedly nice looking kid with dimples. I usually don't read a lot of books from a boy's p.o.v, but it worked. There are some funny moments in the book such as when he looses his virginity, hilarious. I love reading about kids loosing their virginity.(I had to show it to my friends). But there are some really sad moments in the book too, like when Marta tells her mother a devastating secret and her mother buys her off with a designer hand bag. This book is a series and I was intrigued enough to order sophomore version.
I'd recommend it but be ready for a funny and sad soap opera.

    Good read!

I became addicted to this book from the first page and finished it in a couple of days. It's both funny and sad. I love the well developed characters. The story is told from the point of view of Grant Lee, an upper-middle class black teenager living in a predominately white suburb with his mom, his white stepfather and his half-sister Lexie, who he affectionately refers to as the "half-breed". It's has a multicultural list of characters but ignores all the political correctness with honest and crude language that's to be expected when different groups of people co-exist.
Grant is stuck in the "friend zone" with Marta, his female friend who's a little "thick". Because his popularity is priority number one, he ignores his feelings for the fat girl Marta, and instead hooks up with pretty, more acceptable girls which he has no feelings for just as a smoke screen.
He's lovable but defective. There's a part in the book where I saw a very scary part of Grant's personality. I wanted to be mad at him but the author did a good job of making me feel sympathetic to Grant even when he exhibited villain behavior because I understood the source of all his rage and I just wanted to give him a hug.
This book has all the usual suspects, the mean girls, the pot-head and the player. Its a testament to what's going on in American suburbs. My only issue is In some parts was a little misogynist but I'm coming from a female point of view. However, I can't wait to read "sophomore year" coming out in July according to the books website.
If you've ever been in a platonic relationship but wanted more (and which of us hasn't?) you'll relate. Its a good read!

    OMG! SCAN-DAL-LESSS!

where to start? When i decided to pick this up i was expecting a light read with a few giggles in-between just enough of a plot to get me through my hour long train commute but by the time the train pulled into the station i had become super invested in the characters that propel this story! Grant is a suburban teen who moves to the suburbs and gets into loads of shenanigans while trying to juggle puberty, females and keeping boredom at bay in the burbs. sound like anyone's life (pointing at myself). yeah, but then just to keep it juicy his super hot milf of a mom is having this hardcore affair, not to mention that he starts to crush on his "chick friend" and must figure out how to handle such a delicate situation its really like 3 stories all wrapped up in one juicy juicy package! I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see how this kid turns out!

    edgy

Funny. This guy made me laugh. I think it's an abstinence campaign in disguise because this guy is so clumsy. He's supposed to be really popular with the girls but fails every time.
