Editorial Reviews

Mary Moritz
Pieces of this story still come back to me unexpectedly more than a month after I first finished it. The author has a writing style so visual and evocative it's impossible not to be transported right to the center of the world she creates. Mythical, magical and heart-breakingly human in its depiction of familial, romantic, and parental love, the story of Raven and her introduction to her unique inheritance, as her brother stands loyally by her side, is like nothing else I have ever read.

Enter a world of magic like no other. I'm used to elves being the good guys and demons being the bad guys and so it goes. Not so in the Chosen Soul. Reincarnation, magic, demons doing good and elves doing bad, it's all mixed up in the this extraordinary novel by Heather Killough-Walden. This is the first of a series and I was so disappointed to find that the second novel featuring these complex characters, was not available yet. I will certainly buy it because I want to see the characters again.

    MUST READ

I'm so impressed with this author. Every book I've read of hers leaves me wanting more. I burn through them so fast I'm disappointed when I finish them. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

**She has a monthly email newsletter, a blog and a FB page. I highly recommend them since she keeps all her fans posted on when her new stuff is coming out.

If you like... A fast paced book Well developed character The twists and turns of a creative plot Then Heather Killough-Walden's "The Chosen Soul" should definitely be on your Must Read list. I couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. The next book in the series, "Drake of Tanith", is due to be released in February 2012. I will be ready to continue the journey with Raven, Loki, friends and some not-so-friendly ones.

    Only if you're bored...

Ok, so this is the first book that I've read from this author and in my opinion it was "eh". I just didn't really feel that there was enough of an exciting storyline for me to be drawn into because (1.) There wasn't really much character development, except for Raven and that's even iffy (I understand that she's the main character and all, but other characters could have been given a better background story or something). (2.) Random characters were constantly being introduced with no explanation, except a lengthy character description of how amazing everyone apparently looked, minus every other bad guy but the main antagonist. (3.) I did not like how Raven easily accepted everything that was going on around her, even accepting her "true" father like nothing and just taking his word without a second thought, was hot and heavy for one guy and then for another without even knowing them and so on. I also did not like how it ended at all.

I know this is a fantasy book, but I've read better fantasy/romance books then this one that had really good storylines. Listen to all of her other fans, because I'm currently reading another book of hers (both which were purchased for a $1) and that one is grabbing my attention more. Don't let this one book ruin your perception of her as an author, because she doesn't seem that bad.

    ***SPOILER ALERT***

I bought this book on my nook because I am currently waiting for the next book in a series. So I was bored. The book isn't bad and I was ecstatic that I paid only $1.00 for a 892 page nook book (the longest nook book I've read so far). However, I was not impressed with the characters, except for Raven. All the others are very underdeveloped and there are so many new characters throughout that I was pausing often to remember who was who. I was also unnerved with the fact at how easily Raven accepted the story of her birth night. She also immediately forgot her parents, which I could forgive because she was trying to escape with her brother. But once she reached Kriver, she had no questions, thoughts, doubts running through her mind! Even when she called Malphas, she accepted it and he taught her nothing before sending her back to Kriver! I am still reading and I can appreciate the excitement the author is trying to create, but it definitely has room for improvement.

    Enthralling

This genre of fiction is not what I'd normally be drawn to, but I came across this book and decided to give it a whirl. Now I'm anxious for the next book to come out! The story sucks you in and I couldn't put it down...the author paints the pictures of the scenes so vividly!

    Yawn

This story is poorly written. As for over 800 pages.... the page number jumps by at least 5 every time you turn the page.

    Wonderfully long!

I always appreciate a nice, long (and cheap!) Nook book! This story was unique, fairly engrossing, and 800-plus pages long. Yay!

Hooked........... As usual I got to this series late. The great part of that happening is you have more than one book to read and your not sitting on pins and needles WAITING for the next one. The bad part, it happens anyway. This was fantastic and then I ran as fast as I could to Drake of Tanith. Now WAITING for next in series. ****Heather, stop what your doing and give me more of the chosen soul series****

    Not Great, sort of boring

I have read this author before, which is why I bought this book. It is not very exciting. In fact I haven't finished it because it can not keep my attention. Those others who say this a a great book must not have ever really read a 'Great' book before because this is definately not it.
