Great for Busy People

It takes me about fifteen minutes to read through this daily--and that's only if I don't skip the "CS Perspective" page. It's perfect for me, a student with a full-time job, because I don't have enough time to read the Chicago Tribune or USA Today. Perfect for a niche market.

Delivery method fixed (with 1.5.0?)

I signed up for the trial because I couldn't find anything else like it that summed up the daily news in a few pages. When I read the reviews about having to side-load each issue, that was almost a deal-breaker for me, but since the trial was free and they recently pushed Nook software v. 1.5.0 - I thought I would give it a try. I signed up on Friday and first issue arrived immediately (as expected). I was pleasantly surprised to see another issue waiting for me first thing this morning ON MY NOOK (the non-color one). I didn't have to side-load anything. I DID turn on the Nook and its' wi-fi (while at home) - which I am totally ok with. It popped up in my 'Daily Read' and even gave me an alert that I had a new periodical waiting. Perfect. As for content... eh. The summaries of the stories are unbiased - as I remember the CSM from years ago, but the last page is way too Evangelical Christian for my taste (YMMV). I know, I know - it is called the 'CHRISTIAN Science Monitor' after all. But just remember it being different. I'll be cancelling my subscription and waiting for something else to come along.

Highly Recommended

We have for many, many years read and appreciated the Christian Science Monitor. Its long time dedication to balance journalism and coverage of international news has today become a rarity. With the demise of the independent local newspaper and spread of opinionated ranting and hostility this weekly stands out as a much needed beacon of information.

excellent journalism

Not the sensational or often biased writing of the general media. This is much more balanced and helpful. It also looks at what's going on in a trouble spot that's good--who is contributing and how to improve the situation, something I seldom find in other media. It has great international and national coverage. You need a local paper if you want local coverage. But my local paper can't even begin to compare with the Christian Science Monitor in national or international coverage.

CS Monitor's Unique Depth and Perspective: Indispensable

I've subscribed to the Monitor since the late 1970s (as well as reading local and other national papers and magazines), and I've found it unique in its international perspective as well as its daily coverage of women and children. For example, back in the 1980s, it had regular coverage of all parties in the Afghan war, when most other papers had moved on to easier news.

No other paper pays as much attention to women's concerns around the world. You'll find as many stories by women journalists as by the Monitor's very experienced male reporters. It's normal to see features about women, children, and social justice lead the front page. Melanie Stetson Freeman's photos are intimate, wry and passionate, as are those by the other Monitor photojournalists.

The Culture section is perceptive yet catches and reflects on the trends and hoopla of entertainment. Peter Ranier's movie reviews bring an ethical perspective to help you decide how a movie may be worth your while, or how it could be sharper or deeper. He's great at referencing movies of the past that have me searching out classics I've missed or want to see again.

The technology updates are perfect for filtering and digesting the vast array of emerging electronics and transportation options.

I look forward to the book reviews and have learned of other worthwhile reads from the section called "What Are You Reading" The Monitor alone has referenced enough titles to keep me happily immersed in books for decades. Since life is short, and we can't read it all, I really appreciate the Monitor's critical reviews.

In sum, The Monitor is one of the few papers that I read completely.

The Daily News briefing is woefully inadequate.  I purchased a single issue to determine the content.  The articles are short summarizations offering little substance.  I expected in depth coverage based upon the reviews I read.  Instead, every article could be read in a minute or less.  Even the editorial offered little insight into the new mortgage rules.  I would not recommend this "review" to anyone really interested in understanding current events.  

The Monitor used to be unbiased

When I read an article in the CSM about the second presidential debate and the writer called Governor Romney a "predator fish", I don't think that is unbiased and fair reporting! I will cancel my sub.

Outstanding national and international news coverage. Honest, objective reporting on issues that are meaningful. No biased reporting. I have subscribed to the print edition of the Monitor for many years. It is a must read for anyone seeking objective news coverage.

Absolutely the best!

I have been reading the Christian Science Monitor for years and years. If it was not the best newspaper available, I would not have subscribed for so many years. The new print edition is way ahead of any other newspaper. Moreover, the subscription few is reasonable. Highly recommend this newspaper.

Great with my busy schedule

My favorite way to get the news is through the Monitor’s quick 3-page Daily News Briefing that comes to my e-mail inbox. It’s the top stories and news items of the day that merit my attention, and I can read them on the go. I can also click on links to read more in-depth info, if I'm interested. I appreciate the fact that people who are experts in the news business are keeping me up to speed on trends and what's important in the news each day.

My day is not complete without a click on the Monitor site. It's a friend I can trust for unbiased reporting and in depth analysis of what's really going on worldwide. In addition, the on-target, not-to-miss cartoons, movie reviews, and Home Forum essays are for me the whipped cream and cherry on top.

Highest Recommendation: Fair, Balanced, Constructive

The Christian Science Monitor is where I turn for the most reliable news. To me reliable means being balanced, fair, accurate without sensationalizing or hanging on attitudes of hopelessness. The CSM does not flinch about reporting honestly about issues of daily import however, shocking. But it does not leave you there. The Monitor so often goes on to offer constructive solutions and ways forward. It also provides well researched in-depth analysis. It does not seek to villanize or to polarize, but to uncover issues needing honest debate and progress. It trust the reports and respect the analysis and editorials to help us all think how to make our world a better place. It lives up to its motto: "to injure no man, but to bless all mankind."

Wonderful and enlightening journalism

I enjoy the thorough and thought-provoking news articles in the online addition of the Monitor. It is a breath of fresh air.

This is an excellent newspaper for keeping informed about what is happening in the world. It presents a balanced view of the news. I like that it is so easy to access online.
