I am reading this book on a Nook e-reader. Very much enjoying the book, but the footnotes are not available to read while one is reading the book. IN other words, one cannot switch back and forth from text to footnotes and back again while reading. Therefore, the footnotes are difficult to use as I'm sure the author intended to be. I am told the publisher needs to set them so they can be referenced by an e-reader. Please do so!! They are important to the context of this book. The device is capable of flipping between notes and the listing of notes, but this book will not allow that function. Either B & N should fix this, or the publisher should.

I read it in 2 days, that's how gripping it was. Seriously. Sure, I'm his son, but my dad's the best writer I know, and this is an important history about a kind of journalism I guarantee you know very little about, and a subject that will enrich your way of thinking about the world and how good it can be.

Extraordinary, engaging & honest - good read

I've been wired to the Christian Science Monitor for over sixty years, so I found much to relate to in this very fresh and readable story by Keith Collins. I thought I knew all there was to know about the Monitor, but learned more about the fundamentals of the founder's plan and thinking for the paper than I had ever known or thought about before. That's from the context of having read every one ever published on the subject! Collins' thorough and balanced history is very readable even with all the solid research and interviews that never make it tedious. His narrative on what some call "Monitor journalism" and how it has evolved is most interesting. Readers of the various products of the Monitor today and those who are journalists or journalism students should glean much enlightenment from reading this fast moving story. The people involved over the years have made the Monitor what it is today and many back stories about them are shared. Collins finishes up with an insightful explanation of how the Monitor news organization is approaching its mission today.
