Overview

Provide professionally sound and principled therapy based on the truth of God

Christians are faced with the same range of problems as everyone else. However, Christian therapists understand deeply the unique issues involved with their therapy. The Christian Therapist’s Notebook is a single source for innovative, user-friendly techniques for connecting the everyday world of the client with Christian principles and Scripture. This creative, timesaving guide assists therapists in helping clients achieve therapy goals through professionally sound and principled exercises while always maintaining a positive, supportive connection with Christian beliefs. Helpful features include Scripture references relevant to common problems, case studies, vignettes, professional resource lists, client resource lists, in-session exercises, homework exercises, and handouts.

The Christian Therapist’s Notebook bases its success on three foundations: the truth of scripture; the centrality of Christ; and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The book’s three sections include individuals, couples and families, and children and adolescents. Each chapter focuses on a single exercise to address an important issue that may be affecting the client. Chapters provide a guiding Scripture quote, an objective, rationale for use, clear and specific instructions, suggestions for a follow-up, a vignette illustrating the exercise’s success, contraindications, extensive resources, and related Scriptures.

The Christian Therapist’s Notebook exercises include:

  • "A New Creation," which uses a Christogram to personalize the Biblical promises and truths of the spiritual transformation
  • "Snapshots," which reveals repetitive behavior patterns in relationships
  • "Core Connections," which helps the client explore the organization of relational core connections to other people as well as to God
  • "Temptation Judo," which explores the connection between temptation and needs while uncovering God’s promise of escape
  • "Broken Mirrors," which identifies unresolved issues affecting self-image and moves the client to a personal relationship with God
  • "The Book of My Life," which helps identify situations and people that have had an impact on clients, while helping them to acknowledge that God has a plan for them
  • "Tearing Down Strongholds," which helps take the client through the process of repentance
  • "It Was Wrong," which helps abuse victims deal with pain and frustration
  • "Bowing Down," which helps to restore a healthy relationship
  • "Panic Breaker," which helps get to the root of client fears
  • "Parenting after Divorce"
  • "Self-esteem," which helps children with self-concept
  • and many, many more!
The Christian Therapist’s Notebook is the answer for practicing therapists, counselors, interns, pastors, educators, and students searching for activities for client therapy based upon the truth of God.

    An Excellent Resource

As a Pastor and a Counselor, I have found this notebook to be a great help in my practice. The exercises are varied, with clear instruction and a definite Christian base. The contents are conveniently grouped for the various ages and stages of life, as well as individuals verses couples and groups. I have used several of the exercise with great success. I feel confident this resource would be of great value to any Christian-based counseling ministry.

    Extrememly Helpful

As an intern the Therapist's notebook was very helpful to have structure to deal with a specific issue. I used the session called 'I miss...' to counsel those who are grieving. It was extremely helpful to myself, but more importantly to the client. I would recommend this book to anyone just starting to counsel as well as those who have been counseling for years to have a fresh exercise to use.

Very easy to read and use!

The book is very easy to read and apply to any client you may have. I was able to use the examples with many different people. If it doesn't exactly fit the age group you are working with, you are able to adjust a few of the skills. I also love how it includes Christ and allows you to use it in a church or Christian setting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs suggestions or wants to have a great session!

    COMPLETELY USER-FRIENDLY AND SO HELPFUL!

I have had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Henry and you will not find a more godly and humble man. These attributes are reflected in the Counseling Notebook. The book is extremely user-friendly. As a brand-new budding counselor, this book has helped me to immediately find different exercises to help my Military spouses cope with the stress and strain of every day military life. This is a book that EVERY Therapist and Counselor NEEDS to have in their collection. I was extremely pleased and will use this book until his revised edition is available!!!

A Must Have & User Friendly Book!

This book has exercises that can be given to clients during or after sessions. The book can be used by therapists, by interns, students, professors, pastors and lay counselors. You may want to buy 3 of this one! One to keep in your office, one to keep in your briefcase and one to give a friend. All University Psychology programs and Christian churches should supply their staff with this book.

A clinical spiritual oasis in a chaotic secular world

As a clinical practioner with a Christian worldview it has been difficult at times developing 'hands on work' for clients that is pathologically specific and addresses their Spiritual component. The 'Therapist's Notebook' has streamlined this process efficiently and effectively. Money well worth spending indeed!

    Excellent new book

These exercises are simple to execute, but yet, extremely effective in discovering the root issues of various presenting problems. For example, I recently decided to use the Why's of Weight exercise with a young client of mine who was struggling with Binge-Eating Disorder. This tool easily assisted the client in identifying her unmet needs which food was ultimately satisfying, and this further enabled us to utilize more of the therapeutic process to find healthy, alternative methods in meeting her needs. The client especially appreciated the holistic approach of the exercise, integrating the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of human nature. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for tools that can address and deal with therapeutic issues from a holistic and integrative approach.

    Wonderful Biblically based Tool

As an intern, I have found this notebook to be useful. I learn best with hands on experience, and this notebook has helpful techniques that enhances my knowledge and affords me the practice I need clinically to assist my clients. I also like that it is biblically based and that I can incorporate my Christian faith. I highly recommend this book for anyone in the Counseling field.
