This is a sweet little Christmas story that everyone should enjoy, but it is especially great for cat lovers.  After his parents died when he was just a child, Garrison Brown was raised by his Grandma, who lived a number of years with her husband in Kenya, until her husband died and she had to leave.   When Garrison grew up, he worked in Uganda for a number of years.  Shortly after he came back to the states, his Grandma died.  Her one request was for Garrison to find good homes for her six cats.  This involved a long list of requirements for the potential owners, and included a surprise generous gift for the new owners.  Grandma had also hoped Garrison would find his love and remain in her home.  The placing of the cats almost seemed miraculous for both the cats and the new owners. Thoroughly enjoyed this seasonal story.  Loved how each cat found their perfect owners.  The friendships, problems and community part of this story was excellent.  I always have enjoyed Melody Carlson's books, and this was just as sweet and emotional as all her other stories.

Monday, November 17, 2014 The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson, © 2014 Definitely not a ~*plain*~ house cat... Garrison Brown has been called upon to distribute his recently deceased Grandmother's s~i~x cats to deserving households who will love them as their own in the manner in which they are accustomed. Added to the mix is the fact that Garrison is allergic to felines. This should be easy, shouldn't it? Not so, as he endeavors to mix and match perfectly according to the list left behind for their appointing. "Seems she thought of everything." Garrison felt slightly overwhelmed. Was he really about to become the keeper of the cats? --The Christmas Cat, 31 What a wise woman, Garrison's Grandma was in making her will ~ providing for others and introducing Garrison to settled people in her neighborhood. Returning from overseas, Garrison is in need of friends who will support him and care for his Grandma's interests. Three selections and three to go ~ at least, he hopes all of them will get the right new home before he begins his new job and moves on. There is one he is becoming partial to ~*~ and... he doesn't especially care for cats with his allergies. One stipulation is two home visits spread out to make sure the cats are adjusting nicely. That also keeps Garrison around a little longer. Come and visit as Garrison finds that not everything is as it seems. A very fun story that will be enjoyed by all ages. Wait upon dreams that are able to come true. Merry Christmas one and all! ***Thank you to Revell Reads for inviting me to be a part of the blog tour for Melody Carlson's The Christmas Cat and for sending me a review copy. The Christmas Cat Melody Carlson Revell Christian Fiction, Contemporary ISBN 9780800719661 10/25/2014 ****Not long after serving in the missionary field of Uganda, Garrison Brown has losses his grandmother. He is now in charge of finding good homes for her 6 beloved cats. Only problem is he is highly allergic and dislikes cat’s. His grandmother once teased him asking if he had traveled halfway across the globe just to escape her furry felines. Viola was the top cat but was slightly moody, Rusty was easy going and was the clown cat, Spooky was very moody and anti social, Oreo was black & white, Muzzy was very vocal and her favorite Harry was a Maine Coon that looked like a raccoon. Finding homes for them should have been easy except for her specific stipulation for each cats new home. I fell head over heels in love with these cats and their sweet story. Quote “ He smiled at Garrison. “and you can have the pleasure of playing Santa Claus.” The Author Melody Carlson’s love for cats really shined in this cat tail. You can’t help but fall for the feline characters especially Harry. I really enjoyed the love Garrison’s grandmother had for her beloved furry children and the extent she went for their well being. I want to thank the author Melody Carlson and publisher Revell for bringing good clean, fun Christian books like this one to readers like me. I was provided with this book in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely love Melody Carlson books and this one does not disappoint. It is set in the holiday season when Garrison comes home from a missionary trip. His grandmother has died and he needs to finalize her wishes. That includes perfect placement of her cats. She has a few requirements that they have to meet and those requirements create stress for Garrison. Does he find the placements that she wants? It leads to a humorous, lovable and enjoyable book you will not want to put down. I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Garrison Brown returns home from Uganda to Vancouver to build a new life. When his beloved grandmother passes  away a few weeks before Christmas, he finds himself guardian to 6 cats and executor of her estate. Garrison is given the task of finding homes for the six cats under strict rules of adoption. Because his Grandmother loved her cats and  treated them like her children they were to go to good and loving homes. With a severe cat allergy Garrison finds the task daunting. Yet he learns a valuable lesson about his Grandmother realizing he really had not know her well. I really enjoyed  the characters in this book. Through his Grandmother and the personalities of her cats Garrison learned much of faith, love and friendship. I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone wanting to read a nicely written delightful  book. It doesn't have to be Christmas to enjoy reading this story! I received this book from the Book Club Network and Revell Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion which I've given.

The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson is a wonderful book! It’s the kind that makes you feel warm and fuzzy and just plain happy. Melody Carlson is already a great author, and The Christmas Cat is no exception to her charming storytelling ability. When Garrison Brown returns from Uganda, he is greeted with sorrowful news. Given a mission by his grandmother, Garrison must return to his hometown and find homes for six grown cats. Not just any home will do though as all of the homes must meet the extensive rules for adoption. Along the way, Garrison discovers that mission work can happen stateside and that community is more important than security. He also discovers his once broken heart awakened by a beautiful woman, Cara. The Christmas Cat is a story of discovery, generosity and the importance of community. It’s a clean and delightful romance with a twist of holiday spirit. I received this book from the Book Club Network and Revell publishing in exchange for my honest opinion which I’ve provided here.

If you have read any of Melody Carlson’s books you know you are going to enjoy them!  Christmas Cat is a sweet story about loss and reaching for your dreams.  Garrison regrets not coming home to see his grandma more often, and when she passes away he regrets it even more.  As soon as hearing the news Garrison heads home first thing.  When he meets up with the lawyer the last thing he expects is to have to find the perfect home for all six of her cats.  But because it obviously meant so much to his grandma, Garrison agrees.  Being back in his childhood home brings back memories, but being severely allergic to cats makes spending time around the house more difficult.  Can Garrison find his grandma’s “babies” the perfect homes?  Can he learn to love them?  Will he find his purpose in life or lose everything?  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fiction book with a little bit of romance.  I received a copy of this book from Revell and TBCN in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions expressed are my own.  Disclaimer: this book could make you want a cat!

The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson is a thoroughly charming story set around the holiday season. Yet, it is a wonderful story to read at any time of the year. After a nine-year missionary stint in Uganda, Garrison Brown is interviewing for positions while living with an old friend. He receives the sorrowful news that his dear grandmother has passed away and that he needs to travel from Seattle to his hometown to finalize arrangements. Garrison’s grandmother had raised him after his parents’ death in an accident, and he wished that he had visited her more after his return from Uganda. He is remorseful and wants to honor his grandmother by attending to whatever needs to be done. His grandmother had taken in a few cats in the recent years, and her lawyer explained to him that he needed to follow his grandmother’s instructions to the letter and find good homes for her “children” according to her wishes. Armed with allergy medicine and great determination, he resigns himself to stay at the house, search for the best new owners for the cats, and get the house in order for its sale. A job offer in Seattle provides an opportunity to get on with his life, but first he must tend to family business—finding the perfect homes for the cats--and working through his growing attachment to his old hometown and the people therein. The main character, Garrison, is a very likeable and sincere young man who finds matches for all of the cats. Can he find his own “purr”-fect match while he follows his grandmother’s wishes? I highly recommend this book which I could not put down until I finished in a few hours’ time. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

From the gorgeous Maine Coon cat on the cover to the last page, Melody Carlson’s The Christmas Cat is a wonderful book that can be read and enjoyed year round. I have appreciated the author’s Christmas stories for quite some time, and perhaps being a cat lady is why I have chosen it as my favorite so far. After serving several years in Uganda on a team building water wells for those without clean water, Garrison finds himself stateside, trying to find where he fits with friends, job hunting, and recovering from malaria. It is when he has an interview for a job that he is very interested in that he receives the call that his beloved grandmother has passed away, and has left him a tremendous challenge. While grieving and regretting that he spent so little time with her after his return due to his terrible cat allergy, Garrison is given the task of finding homes for the six cats that his grandmother called family in her later years. Not just any homes, but homes that meet very specific criteria. He finds that caring for pets is much more than feeding and cleaning up after them. He also knows that he must sell the home that had been in the family for several generations, in spite of the memories he has there. Orphaned at a young age, an angry young man was sent to live with his grandmother – and the bond they had for the years he was there was amazing. While working in his grandmother’s house, Garrison meets another angry young man, and also shares his dream for his life with his grandmother’s close friend. The dream seems all but impossible, but finding the right homes for six cats seems impossible, also. The characters are very well defined through conversations and actions. Garrison is very likable, as are the people he spends any significant time with. Melody Carlson has a gift for bringing characters to life, especially the primary character, in each of her novels. In this novel, the author also shows how the pets we love have individual personalities and needs, as well as how a pet owner can be responsible for the care of the pet. The Christmas Cat gently speaks of prayer and the Lord’s leading in such a way that those who are not ‘religious’ may become interested in the practice of prayer and listening to Him. It also gently probes our relationships with elderly family members, and challenges us to spend time with our loved ones while we still can. There are additional lessons that could possibly be “heard” through the pen of the author. This is the kind of story that one would have a difficult time putting down, even to eat or sleep! The plot is executed beautifully. I highly recommend The Christmas Cat to teens and adults of any age who enjoy cats, have read and enjoyed Melody Carlson’s other books, or appreciate holiday stories served up with a potential for romance. You don’t have to wait for Christmas, however – this is a delightful tale for any time of year! With a grateful heart, I received a copy of this book through the “For Readers Only” group at The Book Club Network, in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own, and no monetary compensation was received for this review.

The Christmas Cat By: Melody Carlson What a delightful Christmas story!!! Garrison Brown goes back home and his aunt has dies and left him her estate. But to find out he has to meet certain stipulations. He has all these cats his aunt has been taking care of, he has to find a suitable home for each of them, but the people who adopt have to meet certain standards. With each cat adopted the person will get a lump some of money, but not told this before hand. Can Garrison find the perfect home for each of these cats? O I forgot to mention a pretty little gal named Cara. Can there be a future here for Garrison and Cara? Loved the book and great characters. You won't be disappointed. Melody Carlson writes wonderful books.

Looking for a fun and quick read? This is it! It doesn’t matter whether you like cats or not, this is a good book. When Garrison’s beloved grandmother dies, her will asks him to find good homes for her 7 cats. Not only is Garrison allergic to cats but she has left some specific criteria and guidelines on who can and cannot adopt. It was entertaining to read how in the process of trying to get rid of the cats, he gets to know his neighbors. I loved reading how friendships were formed, needs were met, and Garrison’s grandmother’s beloved cats found homes. This was a good story, and a quick read. I received a free book from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group through The Book Club Network, Inc., in exchange for an unbiased review.

This book was very enjoyable and heart warming. You can read it around the holidays or anytime. Story of a man who must decide how he must find homes for his deceased grandmother's pets. He must match the cats to new owners who live in the same area as his grandmother. An interesting concept with a pleasant ending.

This is an engaging Christmas tale. I loved the core of characters that Melody created for this wonderful story. Garrison is delightful and surrounded by wonderful friends. Most of them are people that he meets during the search for homes for the cats left by his grandmother. It is great to see the growth in Garrison himself throughout this book. It is quick and very entertaining book to read, an absolutely captivating story. The development of the plot is incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it. I received a free copy of this book through The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Although it is December 26th, I still think with almost a week left of 2014, those of you who like Christmas-themed books will find The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson an entertaining and uplifting read. Even if your Christmas celebration is over, perhaps you can hang on to the season just a little bit longer by curling up with this book and a hot cup of [insert beverage of choice here]. You don't even have to be a cat lover to enjoy this feel-good story about a young man who honors his grandmother's last wishes by searching for the "perfect" homes for the six cats she left behind. Although if you are, you will probably find it even more charming and amusing. While I have to admit that the story was fairly predictable, I thought that the characters were very likable, and the book was a pleasant and easy read. I liked the people who lived in Gram's neighborhood and Garrison's interactions with them. It was a fun read. I have never read any books by Melody Carlson before, but will probably pick up some of her other books before next Christmas. I recommend this book to readers of all ages. Hope you get a chance to check this one out.  Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher, Revell, in exchange for my honest review.

It doesn't quite feel like the Christmas season has begun until I have read a Christmas themed novella from Melody Carlson. Each year I look forward to her newest offering and a quiet evening at home to savor it. This year she has penned The Christmas Cat. I'm not a cat lover I don't hate them I just lean towards dogs. When I picked up this book I was a bit worried that I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I have her other Christmas books. What was I thinking?!! The main character is Garrison Brown and he's not a cat lover either. He has severe allergies to them. When his beloved grandmother dies he is put in charge of finding her six cats new homes. Easy enough, right? Well much to Garrison's dismay his grandmother has attached several requirements to the homes that her cats are placed in. This is a wonderful book filled with humor and seriousness. The characters are easy to identify with and their stories are just complex enough to make this short book feel complete. There is enough romance to make you smile and at the last page you'll release a contented sigh. I say treat yourself this season and pick up a copy of The Christmas Cat for a little respite amid the hubbub. It would also make a great stocking stuffer for the romantic book lover on your list.  I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

This has to be one of the most adorable and sweet books I have read in a long time. Richly filled with love, forgiveness, friendship, hopes and dreams while at the center keeping God's desires first in your life above your own. The writing style made the book flow smoothly and at perfect pace to really let the story linger in your heart while pushing the plot along. Garrisons relationship with his grandmother is beautiful. After a terrible accident killed both his parents, Garrison was raised by his grandmother, who also had just lost her husband and only son. Grieving together they bonded and formed a love that went beyond words. When Garrison feels his life is unraveling he gets the news that his grandmother has passed away, and he did not get the chance to say his goodbyes. His grandmothers only request of him is to find homes for all 8 of her cats, but with a list of "requirements" the new owner must meet first! This part of the book was hilarious. To see Garrison honoring his grandmothers wishes, despite how crazy they seemed, was incredibly sweet, but the list was hysterically strange. This is were Garrison meets Cara. A beautiful woman that strikes him with her charm right away, but sadly does not fit the criteria of his grandmother to be cat owner. We walk with Garrison as he decides what path in life to take, how to best honor his grandmother and what to do with his dreams. Cat lovers will adore this book as will anyone that loves a sweet romance and a great Christmas story. **Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Revell.

Sometimes I think that the Christmas season would be incomplete without a sweet novella by Melody Carlson - and she does this so well! "Garrison Brown had been known to cross the street in order to avoid contact with a common house cat." These opening words hint at quirky characters, humor, and a path that definitely won't run smoothly. The Christmas Cat is a light, charming, feel-good type of story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Garrison, having served for nine years with a humanitarian organization in Uganda, is at a crossroads in his life when the responsibility of finding homes for his deceased grandmother's six cats is thrust upon him. I grew to like Garrison because of his commitment to carrying out her wishes and enjoyed the way one special Maine Coon kitty named Harry slowly broke down his defenses. It was delightful to see the way each cat's distinctive personality was brought out. Some romance is present, but it isn't the story's strong suit. The neighbors that Garrison meets are endearing - especially Ruby, his grandmother's neighbor and best friend, and Vincent. I loved seeing how cats could affect so many "needy" people in a positive way - people who needed the affection and companionship of a feline in their lives. There's not much spiritual depth, but one theme that stood out to me was that rather than giving up on your dreams, give God time to work. I'm a cat lover, so I obviously loved this story - but I believe it is one that any pet lover would enjoy. Recommended. Thank you to Revell for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Cat lovers will adore THE CHRISTMAS CAT by Melody Carlson and non-cat lovers may have a change of heart. This is a heartwarming story that deals with a man’s love for his grandmother and her faith he will find his right path in life. After returning from a nine year missionary trip to Uganda and a bout with malaria, Garrison Brown feels guilty for not visiting his grandmother more when he learns she has died. Meeting with her attorney, Garrison discovers his grandmother has an unusual request for him – find homes for her six cats. But there are some strict guidelines for placing the cats. To make matters worse, Garrison is allergic to cats. The process of placing the cats takes Garrison on his own journey reconnecting with friends in his old neighborhood. Along the way Garrison also discovers new things about his grandmother and himself. The author quickly pulls readers in with this inspiring story. She blends family, faith and caring with bits of humor and a touch of romance for a well-balanced story. The characters are realistic, likable and well-developed. The setting is warm and inviting. The Christmas element enhances the story adding another layer to hold readers captive. THE CHRISTMAS CAT is inspiring, touching and just an all-round feel-good tale that’s perfect for a holiday read. The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson, Revell, @2014, ISBN: 978-0800719661, Hardcover, 176 Pages FTC Full Disclosure – A copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher as part of a virtual book tour in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review. The thoughts are completely my own and given honestly and freely.

I look forward to Melody Carlson's Christmas novellas every year. Each book is full of holiday spirit, emotionally relevant, and just the right length for an afternoon or evening of reading by the fire. The covers are always spot-on, as well. The Christmas Cat focuses on Garrison Brown. After his grandmother passes away, he's left with the arduous task of finding perfect homes for each of her 6 cats. His grandmother left very specific instructions regarding the cats, and Garrison finds there is much he didn't know about her. Carlson has again woven a heartwarming tale that will be enjoyed by all age groups. She kept the story lighthearted while also addressing heavier matters. I highly recommend The Christmas Cat for all cat lovers, Carlson fans, and those who enjoy holiday novellas. Warning: this story may cause you to run out and get a cat!

Garrison Brown was taken in by his grandmother when he was only twelve-years-old. When he went to Uganda to dig water wells his grandmother began taking in cats. When she passes away her will stipulates that Garrison has to find homes for each of her six beloved felines BUT there is a list of very detailed criteria that each potential pet owner must meet in order to pass the adoption process. With what Garrison considers very severe cat allergies he finds it even more difficult to follow his grandmother's last wishes no matter how good her intentions. I have to say that I am a huge cat lover so I completely get Garrison's grandmother's mindset when it comes to finding homes for her feline friends. Garrison's dislike of cats rankled me at first because he just didn't get it. He couldn't understand how anyone could have such a love for the very creatures that he considered hazardous to his health. But as he spent more and more time taking care of them he gradually warmed up to them, especially to Harry. It was wonderful to see how a few cats could touch the lives of so many and completely transform one. Throw in a little romance and it's a real winner. I really enjoyed this book. I felt the storyline was unique and very well written. The stipulations for adopting a cat were pretty strict and thorough and I felt it made the book much more interesting. It's a very light-hearted story and cat lovers will enjoy it immensely, although you don't have to be a cat lover to love this book! This is a book worth reading and I am looking forward to more books from Melody Carlson! Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review.

This was a good Christmas story.  I am a big cat lover  so had a hard time at first  liking Garrison.  I have it hard when someone doesn't fall in love with most cats right away.  It was almost understandable when  you see that he is very allergic to  cats.  Then when you meet Cara you keep rooting for her.   I received this from Revell Reads  for a fair and honest opinion.
