All Music Guide - Rick Anderson
If you want to hear hard-rocking Christmas songs from a good Christian band, then your best bet is still Duvall's Oh Holy Night on Asian Man. But if you want something a bit slicker that still rocks pretty hard, this one is a good choice as well. Quite a few of these arrangements work really very nicely -- the emotional hugeness of MercyMe's setting of "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear" is very effective, as is their chugging rendition of "Angels We Have Heard on High" although rewriting the melody in the chorus wasn't the greatest idea. Singer Bart Millard can be a bit mannered in his delivery, though, and he sounds pretty silly trying to maintain his dignity while ...

Singer Bart Millard can be a bit mannered in his delivery, though, and he sounds pretty silly trying to maintain his dignity while singing "pa-rump-a-pum-pum" on "Little Drummer Boy." Then there's the really ill-advised country setting of "Silent Night," for crying out loud. But they pull off the devilishly difficult trick of turning "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" into a U2-esque power ballad, and they do it with class. That's no mean feat. Not bad at all.

    Joseph's Lullaby

What an inspirational and moving song! I absolutely love this entire CD, but this is my favorite song on here. Their rendition of O Holy Night will also knock your socks off! What a Christmas treat this CD is!!

    A reviewer

I agree with Cathy and Patty that Mercyme's rendition of Silent Night is absolutely wonderful. It's different enough to catch your attention, but not so different to make you want to turn it off. This version made me want to know who was playing it and I look forward to hearing it played again and again! It's great!!

    SILENT NIGHT RENDITION IS BEAUTIFUL

I so totally disagree with Rick Anderson's review of the Silent Night rendition on this CD. He said, "Then there's the really ill-advised country setting of "Silent Night," for crying out loud." I found this rendition so beautiful and stirring that I took the time to research what CD it was on, and where I could buy it. I love it. I bought this CD without hearing any of the other songs, except for the short sound bites provided at this site. I am anxious to receive the CD so I can hear my favorite, Silent Night! Merry Christmas! Patty

I LOVE their version of Silent Night!!!!

I have to agree with the previous poster. I heard MercyMe's version of Silent Night on my car radio and I wrote down their name so I could come home and look it up. It's different and snappy...makes me want to tap my feet. I'm ordering this CD just for this song and I hope the rest of the songs on the CD are just as good. Cathy
