I am a guitar teacher. I finished going through this book with one of my students & I was very impressed with the way it was written & presented. It proceeds at a very manageable pace & the student is playing songs very quickly. My experience has shown that few things frustrate a student more than going through a book only to play notes & work on "sight reading exercises" when they really want to play an actual song. After getting about half way through it the student is able to accomplish much on his/her own as the book is not littered with overwhelming concepts, etc. This would be a good book to use for self instruction, but I would highly recommend getting a teacher to assist. After this go the Christopher Parkening Volume 2 & begin Giuliani 120 right hand studies. After completing volume 2 of the Parkening & the 120 studies go to & complete the Carcassi Method. Then, you will be ready for just about anything.
This book is very helpful to all fingerstyle guitar beginners. It has guided me playing some beautiful tunes throughout the rest of this book. It starts with practicing the easy songs and then to the hardest one. You will find it helpful if you want to finger pick any songs.
This book is great for anyone who is beginning guitar or guitarists who wish to learn to read standard notation. It starts off with simple exercises and adds just a few notes at a time. I like this because it is fairly easy to complete the exercises and that built confidence. The key is to be patient and make sure that each exercise is mastered before going on to the next. It is better to play one note well than several notes poorly. This book covers notes in the first postition (Open strings through the fifth fret).
