Thomas Nelson's newest addition is the Chronological Study Bible

Thomas Nelson's newest addition is the Chronological Study Bible. This Bible is one that I found to be a very useful tool in addition to my regular Bible. The Chronological Study Bible is an NIV version, which is an easy to read translation. This Bible reorganizes the books of the traditional Bible so that they are in chronological order, which makes it easy to read page by page, as if reading a story. The events flow together in a way that is hard to do with a traditional Bible, and I feel that it really does help gel together important events of the Bible.

In addition to this chronological text, this Bible also offers many study features that I also found helpful. First, the beginning of every "epoch" of this Bible offers insight into the time period in which the books were written. This really helps put you into the mindset of the culture and times of the events that are unfolding. I also liked that there are tons of colorful boxes that give you tips, definitions, and additional information about what you are reading. This Bible has a lot more color on the pages than any other Bible I've seen. Images, maps, and informational boxes are plentiful, and I loved this part of this Bible.

Overall, I would give this Bible a 5/5. I think it is a great study tool, and also really helps me comprehend the events of the Bible as they occurred, rather than the way they were written in original texts. I will definitely be using this as a companion to my traditional Bible.

Lent is almost over and I have been wanting some way to challeng

Lent is almost over and I have been wanting some way to challenge myself with Bible reading. It's hard for me to sit down and read the Bible without a plan. You may remember that I did several Bible challenges in years past and have always had success with them. So now I will do a personal challenge to begin reading through this Chronological Bible and go until I make it all the way through. I know it won't be easy but I'm up for the task!

I couldn't be happier with this particular chronological resource. It is hardback, includes some beautiful illustrations, is broken into 9 Epochs, and has maps and timelines. Almost every page includes some extra history or a map or timeline. This is truly a study Bible. I'm excited to have my own Bible class! I think I may try to get Hubby in on it too! I received a free copy of this Bible from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest review.

The Chronological Study Bible in the New International Version p

The Chronological Study Bible in the New International Version presents scripture in the order in which the events actually happened. Included within the chapters are notes, articles, and full-color graphics and maps that help the reader understand the the culture of Bible times in their proper historical and chronological context.

This bible is divided into epochs, each of which represents a period of time that is characterized by peculiar features or events. For example, Epoch 8 is about the life and ministry of Jesus and includes the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John with the accounts of Jesus' acts arranged in chronological order, meaning that the chapters from the four gospels are mixed together. In other words, you won't read the gospel of Matthew from start to finish without some chapters from the other gospels mixed in so that the chronological order of the actual events is intact, as witnessed by each of the disciples.

This arrangement takes some getting used to as it is different from the traditional order of scripture. It takes a little more effort to find specific scriptures but the extra commentary that this Bible includes makes it worth the adjustment. As the contributors explain, the goal was not to replace "the time-honored canonical arrangement, but instead to honor time as the setting in which the biblical record appeared" and becomes a tool to equip readers with the historical and cultural perspective of the time in which various scripture was written.

The helpful features throughout this bible include lots of illustrations as well as notes on politics and government, cultural practices, science and technology, and arts and literature that influenced people during certain time periods, all of which help the reader understand the context from which scripture was written.

Over all I think this is a very helpful resource for students of the Bible as it keeps scripture intact while providing an historical and chronological perspective.
