Very hot and explicit, but instead of the usual filler between scenes, there's an actual story, and an interesting one. The heroine is a newspaper reporter who writes soft features rather than hard news. Then she is told by her editor to investigate a tip about so-called "pleasure parties" hosted by the rich and powerful around San Francisco. What's mysterious is that the guy giving the tip asked for her by name. Even more puzzling, he proves to be a drunken bum. She follows the story and manages to get into one of the parties. I won't give any spoilers, except to say that she discovers more about herself than she realizes. Supposedly, this is based on the author's own experiences. That's probably why it's all very vivid.
