AB Book Review Lina and Doon live in a city that is failing. There is a famine and blackouts are occurring everywhere. Lina, who loves to draw pictures of cities with light, becomes a messenger for the City of Ember. One night when she comes home from work, she finds her little sister, Poppy chewing on a piece of paper. Lina takes the paper away and finds out they are instructions to something unknown.  Lina gets together with her friends, and together they try to decipher the message and find that it is instructions on how to get out of Ember.   This book creates lots of suspense as you follow along with Lina, Doon, and Poppy on their adventure to find a way out to a better city.  I would recommend this book to fifth graders who like to read books about  adventures and mysteries. This would also make a good read aloud book for a fourth grade class.   I gave this book four stars because it is a great adventure, but at the same time, there is a little too much activity going on in certain sections of the story.

This really transports you into the world of an underground city! It made me think of this world's future like, "Will we ever come to this point?". I remember when my teacher started reading this to us (long time ago), the whole class seemed to love it! My teacher stopped reading the book when she ended the second book (out of 4) in the series. And when I got to book four..my mind was blown! It's a really good idea for a book, and it look very original. The whole thing got me wondering, too! Well when I finished the whole book series, it made me put our world in example. I mean everything seemed to wrap up and have an explanation for everything when the book series ended, and I was in shock. But bottom line, this book series is actually really good! If you want to have the shock I had at the end, start reading this series! Has suspense and adventure. I really am lost at words trying to fit in all my opinions and my review about it. It was just that good.
