    more from this reviewer

A Treasure trove for the Civil War Enthusiast - and at a very nice price!

Granted, the "Civil War Experience" by Jay Wertz is a slim 64 page volume, but those pages are chock full of original art, maps, sidebars, a gripping narrative, and most interesting facsmilies of some of the most important documents of the war such as Lee's Lost Orders that were picked up on a Maryland field just prior to the battle of Antietam, Lee's farewell to his men following Appomattox, and Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. But there are also the letters and correspondence from the men and women who were caught up in that four year war that defined us as a nation. You really get a sense of that History reading the copies of these documents and correspondents, and that in itself with the illustrations is worth the price. Jay Wertz has done an excellent job (with one very minor blemish, referring to General Irwin McDowell as "General Irwin McDonald")in putting together a great, and for 64 pages, pretty extensive overview of the Civil War. This is a must read and an excellent Holiday gift for the History buff, and more specifically the Civil War enthusiast in your family - or friends.

    Interesting book, misleading description.

I haven't seen Jeff Shaara mentioned anywhere in the book. I'm still looking through it, but I didn't see him mentioned on the credits page, the title page, the cover, or the copyright page. So, if you're ordering this book because the description says that Jeff Shaara does the battlefield tours, don't order it.
The book appears to be of reasonably good quality otherwise, and all of the enclosed facsimiles of period documents are cited.
