The Clarence Greenwood Recordingsby Citizen Cope
When a singer/songwriter fights the big record label -- in this case Dreamworks -- because the label doesn't understand the artist's vision, then buys back a record so he can find someone else who cares enough to release it, it's admirable and has a "this must be good" allure for sure. One listen to The Clarence Greenwood Recordings and you might have a guess at why Dreamworks said "no." It's a wandering album, one that Greenwood's fan base can connect with, but more difficult for everyone else. The timely "people wanna bomb us" number, "Bullet and a Target," is the album's centerpiece single; it presents a shock-value laundry list of depressing situations, Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" for the Dave Matthews generation. Elsewhere a vagrant falls in deep love with a billboard and D'Artagnan meets his match. From there it gets more undecipherable, but it's a record he fought hard for and his fans will love trying to figure it all out.

This is a perfect album, every song is a story filled with emotion that will transport you to another world. His lyrics are pure poetry without being misogynistic, simplistic, or typical. He writes songs that will live forever because they touch your soul and speak to everyone, no matter what type of music you like. He blends rap, hip-hop, blues, jazz, and rock and comes up with a style that is unique and genuine. Unlike most commercial bands, he is authentic and raw, truly a talented genius with great taste in music. His mush-mouth vocals and hypnotic phrasings are one of a kind in music, but remind you of Bob Dylan in NYC 30 years ago playing in Village joints or Arlo Guthrie in Alice's Restaurant. He is playing some gigs in NYC, Terminal 5 and a few other places and should not be missed live as he is one of that few artists that is actually as good if not better live than on his amazing recordings. This is by far his best CD, but all of his CD's are amazing.
He is amazing....his voice is different and intoxicating, his lyrics are easy to follow and meaningful, and he is UNREAL in concert. He sounds just like he does on his CD. This guy blows me away and I cannot get enough of his music!
I loved this CD. This really is a great Cd with a soulful talented folksy emotive singer. I Loved the direction of this CD. The band is really good too. Clarence can truly write a lyric and paint a vivid picture with his beautiful emotive delivery. You can really feel his music! The bottom line is Citizen Cope is an awesome band!
Very easy to liten to. His voice is relaxing and rugged. the whole cd is complete and consistenly well done throughout the album. Theres not any room for buyers remorse when you grab a copy of Citizen Cope. Im interested in seeing if a 2nd album will be as good. Cross your fingers, and please dont sell out!
I'm absolutely loving this this guy. His voice, the beats, the different instruments everything about the music I love. Listening to it right now and can't wait for the next.
Think of Mr. Harper or J. Johnson but with plenty of street vibe, some hip-hop and lots of funk. Fresh, Innovative and even though Rough Edged, he's Stylish. All his works are albums to be kept in the Top Shelf.
This album is so amazing. His voice, the music, and his style is beyond compare. Anyone who doesn't own this CD needs to GO OUT AND BUY IT NOW!!! If you are sick and tried of the mass-pop put out of artists with no or little talent, and want someone to listen to with REAL soul, then buy it. I must also say that I'm in love in with Clarence Greenwood, he's got soul.
This album is awesome and I can't wait til the next. His music is so pure and truthful that it makes you believe again that there really are great artists out there. The music and storytelling are phenomenal. I reccomend to everyone no matter what music they like.
