This is one of the best civil war books ever written. It doesnt focus on battles, tatics, and what army moved where. Instead it provides a glimpse into the real people that were the major players in the War Between the States.
The author is neutral when it comes to issues of morality, blame, and whether or not the war was just, instead giving us the views of the participants. A must read book for anyone curious about the hows and whys of American history.
