Meet the Author

Willa Sibert Cather (1873-1947) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author best known for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains. Her work earned her the Pulitzer Prize in 1923. Cather grew up in Nebraska and graduated from the state university; she lived in New York for most of her adult life and writing career. An intensely private person, Cather remained unmarried and her sexuality has become a point of contention among scholars.
