Overview

When the Cleveland-based hardcore rap collective Bone Thugs-N-Harmony dropped their multi-platinum debut, Creepin' on Ah Come Up, they transported hip-hoppers to a whole 'nother level -- the gospel-inspired harmonies and tongue-tying rhymes that permeated hits such as "Tha Crossroads," "Look into My Eyes," and "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" made them sound fresh and powerful. Fans of the quartet will appreciate the tightly produced collection of remixes, soundtrack and guest appearances, and previously unreleased tracks found on The Collection, Volume Two. "Don't Hate on Me" is a smoothed-out reply to Bone bashers that originally appeared on Jermaine Dupri's Life in 1472, featuring a winding electric guitar and a robust guest appearance by Da Brat, while "Ghetto Cowboy" is a head-nodding ode to the Wild West, complete with harmonica and horse sound effects. Perhaps the most comical cut is "Weedman," a rhythmic track that features the refrain "I'm the weedman/keep on smokin'/I'm the weedman/keep on chokin'." Other highlights include "Thug Luv," a rallying posse cut featuring the late 2Pac, and "Hook It Up," an equally thunderous and menacing collaboration with Master P. and Silkk tha Shocker, which originally appeared on P's I Got the Hook Up soundtrack. This 13-track disc is sure to enhance any Bone Thugs-N-Harmony fan's growing collection. Abby Addis

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Jason Birchmeier
More of an odds-and-ends collection than a best-of, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Collection: Vol. 2 compiles various non-album songs by the group, among them a few remixes. As such, the gap-filling release is mainly for completists and shouldn't be mistake for a best-of, since it's far, far from that.
