Dorothy L. Sayers
One of the great mystery novelists of the 20th century, DOROTHY L. SAYERS was born in Oxford in 1893 and was one of the first women to be granted a degree by Oxford University. She wrote more than a dozen Lord Peter novels and short stories, and three more were written by Jill Paton Walsh based on Sayers' manuscripts and notes. Sayers was also noted for her Christian writings and plays and her translation of Dante. She died in 1957.

BILL PESCHEL is a longtime journalist and fan of Dorothy L. Sayers whose Wimsey Annotations project at his website continues to delight and enlighten fans. His first book, "Writers Gone Wild: The Feuds, Frolics and Follies of Literature's Great Adventurers, Drunkards, Lovers, Iconoclasts and Misanthropes" was published by Penguin's Perigee Books. He lives in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Biography

Dorothy L. Sayers, the greatest of the golden age detective novelists, was born in Oxford in 1893. She was one of the first women to be awarded a degree by Oxford University and worked as a copywriter in an advertising agency from 1921 to 1932. Her aristocratic detective, Lord Peter Wimsey, became one of the most popular fictional heroes of the twentieth century. Dorothy L. Sayers also became famous for her religious plays, notably The Man Born to be King, which was broadcast controversially during the war years, but she considered her translation of Dante's Divine Comedy to be her best work. She died in 1957.

    Fantastic and complex plot

    anyone who loves a good mystery would like this. peter wimsey is an icon of detective fiction created by dorothy sayers for readers of firsyt half of twentieth century, the story line is very intricate and i have yet to find anything like it anywhere..iin fact i would like to see any contemporary book or television detective solve it. enjoy the period detail of english culture as well..would be good masterpiece mystery.
