    disappointing

I was completley disappoined in this book. It was extremely repetitive and had so many typos that it was amusing.

Based on other people's untested theories and riddled with errors. Terribly BAD!

I would be embarrassed if I were the author of this one. This book contains nothing but extreme runaway theories that have not been accurately tested in a controlled environment. Eating McDonald's everyday wont make the devil possess you. It's ridiculous at best. Also, did they not have an editor? There are misspellings, more than one misuse of a word and the editors notes are still in the book.

A sad attempt to be a published author, and you can clearly see that this book was written to only add to a resume.

Don't waste your money. Instead, read "SPOOK" by Mary Roach or "What Is a Ghost" by Richard Felix. There are many options out there and all better than this one.

Must Read for anyone interested in the Paranormal.

I have been a fan of the TAPS/GHI show for as long as it has been on the television. After watching the show I have become interested in the Paranormal and read anything I can get my hands on. When I found out Dustin and Barry were writing a book I was very excited. This book was knowledgeable and is great for anyone who wishes to become an investigator. I really enjoyed both the scientific and metaphysical approach they took when discussing spirits and the living. I believe this book is a good read and hope Dustin and Barry write more books discussing the Paranormal!

"The Complete Approach" Gently Guides and Challenges Beginners and Seasoned Paranormal Investigators

Being a long-time fan of Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International, I anticipated that Barry Fitzgerald's and Dustin Pari's book, "The Complete Approach-The Scientific and Metaphysical Guide to the Paranormal," would be both informative and fun. The book delivered on both accounts.

The Complete Approach surprised me with its small amount of pages, but it packed quite a lot of information and stories into those pages. It was a joy to finally have a book that held to the scientific standards while acknowledging the metaphysical that is often -- if not always -- present during paranormal investigations. Too often, the metaphysical has been ignored. The writers did an admirable job of combining and explaining these two areas in their book.

I would highly recommend that anyone who is interested in the paranormal should purchase this book. It is entertaining, informative and a subtle invitation to the reader to ponder his or her individual thoughts and beliefs about the paranormal, the metaphysical and the scientific.

The book stands out in many ways. The first way is simply the authors. Fitzgerald and Pari are two of the best in the paranormal field. The reader does not have to question if the authors know the subject matter well enough to write about it or if they can be trusted to deliver accurate information. The answer is yes, and the book upholds the reader's initial faith in the authors.

The book is part "hand's on" practical instruction, part education, and part personal experience. The practical instructions made sense and were easily understood. Their stories were my favorite part though, but I also enjoyed being mentally challenged by the book. While reading, many times I found myself thinking, "I never knew that" or "I never thought about it like that before."

The book is a fairly easy read. It does get a bit complicated in places where technical information is provided, but moves on quickly.

The major criticism I had with the book was that its editor needed to be spanked. A seasoned editor could have allowed Fitzgerald's Irish accent to still come through, and yet done a much better job of making sure two or three sentences were not allowed to show up as a single sentence. A few times, it seemed that the writers might have been meaning one thing, but the word actually used often conveyed a different meaning. Too many grammar and spelling mistakes were allowed to be left in this short book. I just kept wanting to ask, "Did no one proof this before it was published?!"

The only other criticism I had was that the stories presented did not always seem to go with the material just presented. Transitional sentences that could better establish a connection to the information just provided were often needed -- but not present. Again, an editor should have caught that need.

I think that those few things kept this incredibly good book on the paranormal from being an incredibly great book on the paranormal. I hope that the grammar and spelling corrections can be made before its second printing. I do fully expect it to have a second printing and to become a classic "must have" for paranormal investigators.

The Complete Approach was an excellent first effort. I anticipate that Fitzgerald and Pari will be even better with their next book.

    The Complete Approach Review

I find "The Complete Approach" to be a useful reference and field guide. If you are a rookie in the paranormal field it aids you in interpreting, understanding and applying such items as theories, types of entities, gear and how to form a team. Believe me when I say that creating a team can be full of pitfalls. Barry and Dustin guide you with suggestions from their experiences. Furthermore, what type of gear, why it should be used, setting up and analyzing your findings are also touched upon. This book aids in understanding the metaphysical world via the utilization of the scientific approach. Whether you are a rookie or a seasoned investigator it offers food for thought and encourages one to have an open mind. I will definitely maintain this as a reference guide for present and future use. Well done.

    Easy to understand

I love their television show and this book has made what can be some complicated theories and made them understandable.
