Mother of three, Born-again Christian, Loved this book

My search for a thorough Christian parenting book ended with my purchase of Dr. Sears book. It was a relief to finally find a book written by a Christian medical professional who was able to explain the reasons for attachment parenting and breastfeeding on que. It is very disappointing when Christians write books that are not medically sound, such as Babywise. Many of my friend's milk dried up following the advise of that book and I didn't want that to happen to me because we have a history of food allergies in our family and I know that God's food for baby (breastmilk) contained the immunity factors my children needed and I wanted to provide breastmilk for a minimum of one year. Because of Dr. Sear's book and lots of prayer, I was successfully able to breastfeed my children without any supplements for six months and then continued on with breastfeeding and healthy, homemade baby food and juice supplements for seven to 12 additional months. My husband, also a Christian, supports this method of parenting and realized that as a mature adult, he is able to put aside his desires for a relatively short period of time while a lttle baby has needs that need to be met immediately. My husband and I found that we were actually able to do more things together as he carried the baby in a front pack or backpack and I was always there with milk available at just the right temp. for feeding baby if the need arose. Our marriage is healthy, intact and we have three loving kids who are each serving the Lord. For those who believe this is not the Biblical way, I would like to ask them: Did Mary have a watch or timer when she nursed Jesus?

    Attachment Parenting is Christian based

Babywise is the worst thing to happen to babies. For the last reviewer, you really ought to consider throwing the Babywise book in the trash, it's where it belongs. Co-sleeping has been done since the dawn of time and is VERY safe when you take precautions (no unsafe blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc). Western culture is the ONLY culture that doesn't co-sleep as the norm. Attachment Parenting is simply using the instincts God has given us, which is why the need to comfort a baby is so strong when he/she cry, our breasts leak and so on. Babywise incourages crying it out and anytime you ignore a baby for your own purposes, you need to seriously reconsider what you're doing.

    COMMON-SENSE & CARING ADVICE

A well-written, easy to read book for Christians and non-Christians alike. The Sears' are medical professionals with 8 children who encourage parents to trust their instincts and meet each child's needs in a way that suits them as an individual. An outstanding alternative to the 'babywise' & 'growing kids god's way' books, which are negative and promote some unhealthy and dangerous practices such as rigid feeding schedules, physical punishment of infants/toddlers, parent-centered family orientation, etc.
