Overview

One of the secrets of real magic is that it is controlled by the mind. The more things in your ritual to help your mind associate with your goal, the more powerful your ritual may be. Colored candles, scented oils, natural incenses, and more all add to the impact of the magic you wish to do. But how do you know which incense to burn? Is it possible to add scented oils together to get a more powerful oil? And how do you make your own appropriately-scented tools?

The answers to questions like these and hundreds more can be found in The Complete Book of Incense, Oils and Brews by world-famous author Scott Cunningham. This is a greatly expanded and rewritten version of The Magic of Incenses, Oils and Brews. It includes over 100 new formulas, proportions for each element of the recipes (the most requested feature from his previous book), how to substitute ingredients, and much more. Besides the formulas, it also includes the exact methods of making all of these scented tools, including how to extract the essences from the herbs.

Each one of the formulas in this magic book is precise and easy to make. Do you need luck? Take 2 parts vetivert, 2 parts allspice, 1 part nutmeg, and 1 part calamus, grind them together as finely as possible, then sprinkle the powder in a circle around you, beginning and ending in the East and moving clockwise. Sit within this circle and absorb the powder's energies. Also included are other ways to use magical powders that will have you coming up with your own ideas for them, too.

There is a legion of recipes for incenses. There are three for the sun and two for consecrating talismans. There are incenses for each of the astrological signs and ones to help you study better and gain success. You'll also find incenses for each of the planetary influences. There are four for Saturn alone!

This compendium of magical lore is a vital tool for every magical person on any magical path, whether you are a beginner or an expert.

Meet the Author

Scott Cunningham practiced magic actively for over twenty years. He was the author of more than fifty books covering both fiction and non-fiction subject matter; sixteen of his titles are published by Llewellyn Publications. Scott's books reflect a broad range of interests within the New Age sphere, where he was very highly regarded. He passed from this life on March 28, 1993, after a long illness.

Read an Excerpt

I still often think of Scott Cunningham. His contributions to the occult make him one of the most important spiritual people of the last century. His books on Wicca have gently, lovingly, and thoroughly introduced more people to Witchcraft than just about anyone else.
But while Wicca was his spiritual path, it was natural magic that revealed his deep understanding and broad knowledge of herbs and their magical powers. His books on these subjects have become the de facto sources for all sorts of magical people. Already, The Complete Book of Incense, Oils & Brews (an expanded and rewritten version of The Magic of Incenses, Oils and Brews) is owned by over 150,00 readers. You should own it, too.
Today, there are two major trends in magic: natural and ceremonial. They have different methodologies to get the same results. Neither is better, they are just different. The "best" one is whatever you can successfully use.
But there is an interesting thing about these two systems: They both use incenses; they both use scented oils; they both use scented baths and magical teas. That makes this book applicable to any system of magic you may follow!
Besides giving the formulas for hundreds of the scented magical tools, Scott also reveals how you can easily make substitutions in the formulas. In this way, even if you are out of a particular herb to use as you compound your own incenses, oils, powders, and so forth, you will still be able to make magic.
Yes, you will find recipes for scents to use when doing magic for initiations, love, exorcisms, money, health, talismans, elemental energies, astrological energies and for many of the goddesses and gods. But by studying this book you will be able to develop your own, unique recipes and formulas. You will understand how these herbs really work.
And that, my friends, is real magic!

    I Love This Book

I have made some of the oils in this book and they are great! The book is so informative and helpful it not only speaks of how to make oils but incense as well. Great for any witches library and a much need for those wishing to make their own oils and incense.

If this is your calling...A Must-Buy!

Cunningham does a remarkable job of introducing the Magick of herbs, aromas, oils, and salts. Novice and veteran alike will find something of use in this book. You needn't be a practioner of "The Craft" to get this (but it helps). The "Substitutions" section alone is worth the price of the book.

    Interesting

I bought the book because I wanted to learn how to make incense and oils. So, it really wasn't what I thought it was, and I returned it. But, I did flip through it before I returned it and I found it very interesting. If I believed in that sort of stuff I'm sure I would have found it handy.

    Chock Full of Info

Great book for herbal concoctions. I like Scott Cunningham's approach--very practical, and encourages individualization. I bought this book years ago, lost it to an ex-roomie, and received it this year as a birthday present...about time!

    Simply Poor!

This book is poorly researched in terms of the art of making incense. I wouldn't even list it as an incense book. No quality incense has ever been made using salt peter, and the author doesn't appear to realize this creates a toxic gas.

You won't find a better all around reference book on the subject

Although he was a Wiccan, I really respect this man's work. This book is one of my most valued reference books. It's written in an intelligent, accurate, precise, unbiased, unpatronizing way (very UN-like that fluff bunny poser Silver Ravenwolf)and is brimming with very good information. I consider Cunningham's books on Herbalism among the best ever written on the subject. He is easy to understand and this book is a huge benefit for every Pagan, from very beginner to very experienced.

    Wonderful

This book is awsome, it tells you just about everything you need to know. Not only does it explain what everything is that he is talking about but teaches you how to make them. He also encourage's you not to always follow his stuff but to create your own and how to go about doing that as well. This book is also a very good way to find out what herbs are poisonous, what oil's will bother your skin. This is really a book anyone would need.

    The BEST magickal recipes!

Out of all the magickal recipe and spell books that I have read, this is my absolute favorite! I HIGHLY recommend that everyone should have this on their bookshelf. The formulas are very easy to follow and the ingredients are readily available. With visualization and empowerment, these tried and true recipes bring amazing results! This is one book that you will cherish and put to good use for many years to come. Blessings~

This is a good book for people just starting out~!

This book is a great book for starting your path with the wiccans...Though it does a lot of ingredients and tells you a lot of diffrent things to make..This is a good way to start out by taking and learning some of the basics...This book does that for you...It tells you about some basic spells and teachings of Wicca...It was the first book I bought for my start.
