Meet the Author

Dr. Jason Fung earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto, where he also completed his internal medicine residency before heading to UCLA for a fellowship in nephrology (a branch of medicine concerned with the kidneys). He currently practices as a kidney specialist in Toronto.

During the course of treating thousands of patients, it became clear to Dr. Fung that the epidemic of type 2 diabetes and obesity was getting worse. The prevailing dietary recommendations for reducing dietary fat and calories were clearly ineffective. In response, he founded the Intensive Dietary Management program (intensivedietarymanagement.com) to provide a unique treatment focus for type 2 diabetes and obesity that promotes simple yet effective dietary changes rather than focusing on medications.

Jimmy Moore catapulted onto the health scene in 2004 after a phenomenal 180-pound weight loss enabled him to come off prescription drugs for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and respiratory problems. Excellent Book - very educational on how the body works during a fast and recommendations on how to do short-term and long-term fasts. I would strongly recommend it to anyone interested in IF.

I bought this book and then talked to a friend, who is studying to be a nutritionist. She schooled me on something everyone should know, that we fast every day. It's called sleeping. If you are going to fast, it should be temporary to help reset our bodies. For some of us, especially those with health issues, long term fasting isn't always healthy. She says that our bodies goes into a starvation mode that forces us to hold on to our weight, rather than lose it. She said that’s why you should never starve yourself. It’s also why breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day because it helps to refuel our bodies from the fasting that we do overnight. Get it breakfast, helps to break our fasting from not eating for those long hour. She suggested that I simply change the way that I was eating. She recommended another book that she said she wished she could have written herself. It’s call Hungry Chick Dieting Solution. She said its not another diet or weight loss program, but actually helps change how you look at foods. It is the reason she started studying nutrition. I just ordered a copy based on the reviews alone. If you buy this book about fasting, make it a temporary fast not a permanent way of life. But, if you want to lose weight, Hungry Chick might be the answer for all of us. I hope that helps.
