Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

After 25 years as a portrait and wedding photographer, Cleghorn believes light is the key to all great photographic images. His jargon-free look at the basic principles of exposure, direction, quality, and color of light shows how to work effectively with ambient light and with on-camera flash, among other topics. Recommended, especially with the more theoretical and spiritual approach of Albert and Leslie Trainor Handell's Intuitive Light: An Emotional Approach To Capturing the Illusion of Value, Form, Color, and Space.

    Excellent guide.

Mark Cleghorn takes a very technical look at achieving amazing lighting effects. Although it does use technical photographer lingo, the explanation and setup examples make it completely understandable. You will not be disappointed in this book and the results you receive will be exactly what you are looking for.

    more from this reviewer

    A terrific guide

This is a very good guide to photographic lighting. It uses real situations and simple setups. The author has covered all topics from all natural light to just studio lighting equipment as well as multiple subject types.

The examples are well illustrated and easy to follow.

The only negative is that it is written in the UK so there is some translation of terminology. For those with some lighting background you'll be able to figure out what they are talking about.
