Getting online has come a long way in the last 15 years. 1200 baud was considered lightning fast back then. Nowadays, even 56K is considered 'slow,' with the advent of high-speed Internet technology. However, the choices available can be confusing to the average 'net user. This book attempts to 'sort out' this confusion, offering clear and detailed explanations about all the available choices (ISDN, DSL, cable, satellite, and wireless Internet). The book gets technical in the Installation section, but no more so than absolutely necessary and with the pictures and diagrams, the material is easy to follow. It offers instructions on how to install whichever type of high speed service you want (provided it's available in your area). The last few chapters provide advice on 'protecting yourself online' (ie using firewall protection), as well as sections on troubleshooting problems. It's certainly not the 'definitve reference' on all high-speed Internet connections, but it's a excellent start.
