    Smart Writer's Guide

A funny, encouraging, and practical guide to the world of the professional writer. The "least you need to know" summaries are great time-savers, and the interviews are wonderful. I love Tom's pretense-deflating humor and his pragmatic approach. You don't have to be a doomed esthete to write well, just an ordinary person who loves stories (ok, more obsessively than most other grown-ups) and is willing and able to work hard. If only I'd read this in my twenties! It would've saved me years of angst.
