This is an excellent book to have in the private library. This book is good for a quick reference, for students or birders in general. It has great quality in reading and specification of each species of birds. A must for the student of ornithology and the birder (hobbiest) alike.

A book that has no listing for such common species as the Red-tailed Hawk, the Mourning Dove, the Turkey Vulture, or the Downy Woodpecker has no business being called a "Complete Encyclopedia of North American Birds". Also, many species where males and females have distinctly different appearances (such as the Goldfinch) only have pictures of the male. Finally, many of the pictures in the first section of the book are uncaptioned. All in all, I can see why this book was in the bargain section.
