The author really knows what he is talking about. He manages to put things into another perspective and dismantles a lot of prejudices about Romania. He makes ordinary Romanians proud and he definitely is a very interesting and eloquent writer.
As opposed to most guide books, which are annoyingly inaccurate, this is spot on. The author lives here, he cherishes this country and appreciates its individuality.
Not a lot of people get to understand Romania so deeply. They don't get it. He gets it and he explains it masterfully. Thank you Sam. Romania needed a voice.

I've read this book in one go and found it to be absolutely fascinating. And I'm Romanian! I think anyone planning a trip to Romania will benefit a lot from picking up a copy of this guide as it explains a lot, not just about tourist attractions, but about the culture and customs as well. So you'll be able to understand a whole lot more about what's going on around you. The author has an insider view of the country and it's basically the best thing you can find out there-a guide written by a Romania lover who dedicated his time to learning all there is about this country. Definitely worth buying!

I accidentally found this author's blog one day and started reading it out of curiosity. I was fascinated by it. Not only that is brought a fresh perspective on Romanian society today, but as a romanian myself I was shocked to see that this guy totally gets it. Everything. He chose to stay in this country for years and had the willpower to learn the language and customs, and that makes him a veritable "insider".

This is excellent work, the author managed to learn Romanian and to understand it's culture by living here, among us average Romanians. His accurate observations and helpful advice on how to talk to people, get informations and spending a wonderful time are the best you can get.

I wasn't expecting this to be nearly as accurate as it ended up being for me. I was not in Cluj-Napoca, but I was in Targu Mures, still Translyvania. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this outside of Translyvania, but it was a *really* helpful pre-Romania read! Thank you for the great book.

Overview
It's not Romania's fault that it is so poorly understood outside its borders. It is only just now that visitors are starting to appreciate this magnificent jewel right at western Europe's doorstep.
