The Complete Little Nemo In Slumberland Volume 2

I first viewed this book in 1991 with my friend Terry Edwards who used to work in the comic books field as a comic book seller.
To quote Terry, "Looking at this is like coming down off mushrooms." Indeed Winsor McCay's stylish crafty artwork does have a feverish psychedelic intensity. The forms are multicoloured and ornate. Winsor McCay has total command of his craft as he executes one splendid and stunning drawing after another.
For experienced artists who have never seen his work before, Winsor McCay is an instant mentor who indirectly teaches through the direct experience of looking at his drawings.

The editorial drawings do as much to reveal about Winsor McCay's talent as the comic strips do and this book includes a couple of these expert examples of sketches and cross hatching.

These books usually sell for $70 or more but for some fortuitous reason, I got it for $12 here at Barnes and Noble. If you can see a deal like this, get it.

Winsor McCay, Walt Disney, Stan Lee, Todd McFarlane, Frank Frazetta, Patrick Nagel, John Burne, Terry Austin, Boris Vallejo and Georgia O'Keefe these are all great artists and Winsor McCay certainly belongs in that list. These are artists that have influenced so many others.

The book is a large hardcover book and the pictures, if you are looking at them will take you to another time, another world, another feeling. This art is life changing.

I doubt that I would be travelling anymore, but I am just saying that if I ever travel or move, this book is something that will be with me everywhere I go.

This book has influenced me and pushed me to be a better artist. I take my drawings further because I have read this book.

As a cartoon animator with a few cartoons under my belt I can proudly say that Winsor McCay is one of my mentors.
