There are not many works devoted exclusively to philosophic method. This one is perhaps the best of that kind. Its author is a major figure in twentieth-century American philosophy, and this book is typical of his work) clear, elegant, wide-ranging in its learning, penetrating in its insights. I recommend it especially to young philosophers: it opens up possibilities of their profession that may have been neglected in the current graduate school fashions. It is good to see the book back in print.
