The Concord Jazz Heritage Series

All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
During the period covered by this 1998 sampler CD, Tito Puente had a series of very strong Latin jazz bands, much more jazz-oriented than most of his earlier work. In fact, other than his own "Lucky Dog," all dozen selections on this retrospective are jazz standards, including "Airegin," "On Broadway," "Donna Lee," "Jordu," and "Killer Joe." In addition to Puente's regular band, there are guest appearances by George Shearing on "Lullaby of Birdland", Maynard Ferguson, Phil Woods, and Terry Gibbs included on this worthwhile overview.

    The Undisputed King of MAMBO!

This cd is one of the absoulute best Tito Puente cd's out there. The really good tracks are "If You Could See Me Now", "Consternation", "Prelude To A Kiss", and "Lucky Dog". But all 12 tracks are really really good. I love all 12 tracks on the entire cd. Tito Puente was one of the best Latin Jazz artists. He played jazz well, and latin jazz even better. He was a great crossover artist as well. Even though "El Rey Del Timbal" is no longer with us, his music will continue to live on in our hearts forever. He will always be sorely missed. Tito Puente will always reign SUPREME!
