Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up-- An attractive melding of concise narrative, historical illustrations, and informative captions enhances these two series entries that draw upon the resources of the Library of Congress. Judicious use of black-and-white and full-color reproductions, along with the crisp and clearly written accompanying texts, cogent quotations and captions, makes for an attractive format that includes sufficient white space, boxes, and headings to create a clean, uncluttered look. While some of the illustrations are familiar, many will be new to readers. The Conquest of the West covers the territorial expansion of the frontier from 1783-1912, while The Riches of the West discusses the exploitation of the many resources and land. --David A. Lindsey, Lakewood Junior/Senior High School, WA
