I purchased this book for my daughter who is a beginner at planting containers. She has just bought a house and is interested in learning about all kinds of horticulture. Container plantings are a great way to begin.
As a garden consultant myself, I recognize a good beginning text and this "The Container Expert" book is terrific for beginners and intermediates! Learning about design, care and maintenance of enclosed contained plantings, and choice of plant materials for specific conditions is extremely well covered. All phases of growing plant material, types of soil and planting mediums, drainage, light requirements, design elements, and pests and diseases are discussed in depth. There is even a good discussion on types of containers.
The compendium of plants and their descriptions is broad and covers cactus and succulents, perennials, annuals, vine varieties, and various sized plants from tiny creepers to tall Cannas and conifers.
In my own courses to become a garden consultant, several of the D. G. Hessayon books were required reading. If you are new to container plantings I highly recommend this book.
