Jaronsky, the creator of the website Cookies & Cups, presents over 125 selections with sweets in the front. Her casual tone and concise recipes with numbered steps are inviting for those new to the kitchen. Readers won’t find recipes making use of kale or quinoa here, but with the author’s motto of “eat dessert first,” that’s not a surprise. Basics such as chocolate chip cookies and an all-butter pie dough are offset with her unique throw-caution-to-the-wind selections such as Junk Food Marshmallow Squares (complete with potato chips) and Fruity Pebbles Cake (which includes the popular cereal on top of creamy frosting). No-bake options, including chocolate-filled oat squares and mint chocolate bars, are great for easy cleanup. Sweets are the author’s forte; savory selections (presented in “Part Two: Did you Save Room For Dinner?”), such as fresh tomato pasta and chipotle-lime chicken chopped salad with creamy avocado dressing, fizzle a bit. This is a fun selection and one for which it’s probably best not to include nutritional breakdowns. Agent: Andrea Barzvi, Empire Literary. (Apr.)

“Shelly's signature genius creativity for mouth watering breakfast treats, easy family-friendly dinners, and indulgent desserts shines through in her new cookbook! Packed with photos for each recipe, she teaches us that food should always be approachable and fun, and dessert should definitely come first. Somehow she always knows just what you'rein the mood for, be it warm brown sugar cinnamon bread, a huge slice of toffee banana cream pie, or a plate packed with ranch-style mac & cheese.”

The Cookies & Cups Cookbook is a delicious collection of over 125 sweet and savory recipes. This cookbook is divided in two sections – desserts and dinner. As a fan of sweets I loved how the desserts are first in the cookbook. The recipes have a different range of difficulty so readers will find many delicious choices to match their cooking expertise. My family are chocoholics so we selected to try The Fudgiest Brownies recipe. Not only was it because of the chocolate but because our mouth watered from the picture. I confess that I am a lazy cook. I avoid recipes that have too many ingredients or complicated steps. So as soon as I read the recipe I knew I found one that had a good chance for success. And I was right! Each step of the recipe was clear for me to follow; even the amount of time to cook was exact. The recipe and I was a perfect match! And when my family tried the finish product they were speechless. Minutes passed before anyone told me what they thought. They were too preoccupied with eating the brownies. This was so easy to make and tasted so delicious. I will never buy a boxed brownie mix again!
