Overview

From the co-founder of Women to Women, one of the first clinics in the country devoted to providing health care for women by women, comes a whole new way to look at weight loss: The Core Balance Diet. Marcelle Pick draws upon decades of patient and personal experience to solve the mystery of stubborn, frustrating weight gain in women, whether you’ve just gained it or have been struggling with it for years.  This breakthrough program, which has benefited many of the thousands of women who visit the clinic each year, is rooted in cutting-edge nutritional science that explores the weblike relationship between women’s hormones, metabolism, and weight gain. In clear terms, Pick connects the dots between self-knowledge, self-care, and the ability to lose weight, extending the concept of body-mind-spirit to demonstrate why and how a woman’s biography becomes her biology.

At its most basic level, The Core Balance Diet shows you how to self-diagnose one of six major biochemical imbalances that may be preventing you from losing weight. These include digestive, hormonal, adrenal, neurotransmitter, inflammatory, and detoxification imbalances. From there, Pick guides you through easy lifestyle and diet changes customized to heal your specific imbalance. Throughout, you will learn how to begin living in a manner that encourages optimal health—without a lot of deprivation and stringent dieting rules— by achieving core balance from the inside out, and, of course, weight loss for life.

    Don't buy the Nookbook!

This is a highly informative nutrition book, and well worth reading. However, don't waste your money on the Nookbook version. Many of the specific information is in table format, and it is outof focus and mis-sized. You simply cannot read it! Save yourself the frustration of paying for a whole book butnonly being able to read part of it. Go for the paper copy!

    Very good book

I really did enjoy the book. It is full of useful information. It is a great reference book as well as her website. After reading the book, I signed up for her newsletter which is full of even more useful information. Differently a good book by a woman for women. I recommend it.

    I Feel Fantastic

I loved this book. I took the health quizzes and found that I had adrenal imbalance. When I gave myself two weeks of lots more sleep, I began to lose the post-menopausal fat belt that formed a few years ago. This is not a fast weight-loss program, which is good at my age because my skin would need a long time to normalize after losing pounds. (Who needs flapping jowls?)

Although I read them, I do not follow diet book recipes (I'm an experienced cook). The lists of foods that one can eat abundantly were my starting point for creating my own meals.

On behalf of the reviewer of the audio book who did not get the diet plans and recipes, I ask the publisher to wake up and start providing this, as the program is useless without it.

    Great premise, tough implementation!

I whole-heartedly agree with Marcelle Pick and the Women-to-Women philosophy of treating the "whole" body to get women back into balance, but this program and its' recipes are so difficult to follow that you might get lost before you find your "Core Balance".

The biggest critique I have about this book is that the recipes are not designed for a single person following the diet. Frequently, recipes will produce 4 to 6 servings, and there are even recipes that produce 15 servings. This would be fine if the entire family were to follow this program, but that is not usually the case in a home. Usually a single person is on the program and making multiple servings of a meal means that the meal will be called for again within the next day or so. But this is not the case here.

The biggest improvement I would recommend to the diet is to simplify the ingredients list and recipes, cut down the servings to reflect the single person on the diet, and give alternatives to dieter for ingredients.

I was very excited to follow this program, but once into it, found it too complicated and time consuming to continue. Maybe one day I'll pick it up again...

Highly recommend, balancing your core is more important than you think.

You are what you eat and balance is everything.

    Great read!

I've enjoyed reading the Women to Women website for some time now and receive the electronic newsletters - always great practical advice and explanations about a number of different women's health issues. So I was excited to pick up a copy of The Core Balance Diet - and was not disappointed! I came away understanding adrenal imbalance and its symptoms (information I promptly shared with some friends who I know will benefit from the book!). Now I'm working on changing my eating to include more of Pick's recipes.

The Core is my new favorite health refence book.

This book has detailed information on how to start your plan of action and what to eat, what to drink, what to take for supplements. It gives you simple tests to find out your problem areas and then shows you what you need to focus on to cleanse and simple sample menus of NORMAL food. This is also a way to approach simple change in 4 weeks. Usually you create a new "habit" after that amount of time.

    I Also Recommend:

Places all the information in one book.

I have read many books on healing, food is medicine etc. This book asks the right questions and places all the bits & pieces I have picked up elsewhere in one place. I can pick up this book anytime and find relevant timely information.

    Difficult to Implement

I purchased the book on CD for this. Although I agree with the author's premise and theories, the audio book did not provide any detailed diet plans or recipes -- very disappointing. I suppose that if I want that information, I will have to also purchase the written book. That defeats the purpose of purchasing an audi book! I would have loved to see sample days meal plans, recipes, etc. What a shame -- don't feel like I got what I paid for here. If you are interested, try the written book. Not sure if it's any better, but the audio book was disappointing.
