This is the one. The Crab With the Golden Claws, or, to be precise, the arrival of the Captain, turned the Tintin books from just a good series to a great series. It is also the first introduction to the vile Allan Thompson, setting readers in good stead for the rest of the series... But, most importantly, now the irreplacable Archie is here, it's all systems go!

I've been surprized at the lack of reviews for Tintin books as I've gone through to review each one, so I'm trying to make up for that by doing my best to do them justice. The saga begins with a little mischief by Snowy. Rummaging in a dustbin for bones to chew, he gets his nose caught in a crab tin. Tintin soon realises that there are opium smugglers using tins with crab labels on them as a cover-up. When Tintin escapes from the hold of the Karaboudjan - the ship with the opium - he finds Captain Haddock in his cabin and the two leave the ship to pursue the trail of the smugglers and put an end to their trafficking in drugs, They wind up in the Sahara desert for several days, then in Morocco finally get on the trail of the boss of the opium trade. It's an excellent story - Captain Haddock is quite the character and indispensable now that he has made his appearance.
