Meet the Author

Originally from Texas, Dorothy Morrison now lives the magical life in Maine with her family. Dorothy is a member of the Pagan Poet's Society and a charter member of M.A.G.I.C., a magical writer's and artist's organization. Dorothy is a Wiccan High Priestess of the Georgian Tradition, and has been an avid practitioner of the ancient arts for more than twenty years. She founded the Coven of the Crystal Garden in 1986, and spent many years teaching the Craft of Wicca to students both in the United States and in Australia.

A former state championship archer and bow hunter, Dorothy's current interests include Tarot work, magical herbalism, stonework, and computer networking.

Dorothy's work has been published in many journals and magazines, including Circle Network News, SageWoman, and Crone Chronicles. In the following excerpt, author Dorothy Morrison sheds light on the Moon/Goddess connection.

Because its energy is feminine in quality, the Goddess is often symbolized by the phases of the Moon. Each phase vibrates differently and corresponds to a specific Goddess personality, as well as to a variety of magical purposes.

Waxing Moon/Light Maiden: When the Moon grows from light to full, we use its energies for anything that requires increase, growth, or enhancement. It's a good time to work magic involving inspiration, new love and friendships, financial prosperity, healing, increasing physical stamina, and garden planting.

Full Moon/Mother: The Moon's energy is at its most potent when it reaches this stage. And while we can use it to boost any effort, it's of real benefit to especially complicated workings or difficult situations.

Waning Moon/Dark Maiden: When the Moon shrinks from full to dark, we use its vibration for anything that we want to diminish or eliminate. This energy works well for efforts that involve dieting, breaking bad habits, and eliminating stress or depression.

Dark Moon/Crone: Some practitioners use this phase to rest, regenerate, and regroup. Others use its energies for psychic work, divination, and delving into past life memories.

    Extremely usable and easy to read.

    Unlike many of the books I picked up for research, this book was easy to read and understand. The information is practical and immediately usable and I was able to use the information immediately in my work.

    Excellent Book!

    This book is a GREAT book. I have the craft and the craft companion: they are great for newcomers and beginners: they are easy to understand, and educational in regards to the craft. It has the most used types of spells and i just absolutely love it. My kudos to the author, really.

    Good book for Initiates To Wicca/Witchcraft

    Been a witch , just decided to get some reading

    I've been doing witchcraft for almost 7 years now and I was very impressed , it gave me a lot of thought and it really would help a beginner in learning how to Practice witchcraft. Unlike some of the other's I have looked through this one can teach you how to make your own supplies without having to spend a penny!

    The Greatest Book EVER!

    I just started reading about the Wicca religion and came acrossed this book. I'm almost done with it and so far it's been a great help! This book is a must have, it has all the information you need to start out, and I would definately recommend this book to beginners like me.

    A great book for beginners!

    This book is a fantastic resource for those just beginning the Craft of the Wise. I've been practicing Wicca for almost three years and I found this book wonderful! Dorothy Morrison writes great, it was like she was my mother and reading it to me. I felt so safe when I read it and can't wait to read more by her!

    INFORMATIVE!

    This book is the first book I have recieved on begginging of my practice.. I am 16 years old and just starting and I needed lots of information and this book definetly did that! I loooved it and set out understandable steps for someone like me!

    Great for Beginners

    This was the 1st book on witchcraft that I bought, and it was a good decision indeed. This book gives you all the information a beginning witch needs. You should buy it if you are just starting out!

    A wonderful read

    If your just starting out or just reviewing, The Craft is a great book to get. Not only does it tell you what you need to know but it teaches you how to do the things she's talking about.This book is a must have for anyone interested in the Wiccan Ethics.

    A great all-around book

    This is my favorite 'wicca 101' book, and I've read dozens. It's a great step-by-step guide with exercises for each tool and season. It's also a good book for anyone interested in earth religion, wicca or not.

    Craft

    This book is great for anyone who is just beginning witchcraft it gives you an overlook of the entire craft itself. I have been practicing for many years but it still gave me some information that I had never known. Great workings Blessed be!

    This is a great book for starting witches

    I've enjoyed this book. From the first day I recieved it to the last page. It has been helpful not only in love but also in sucess and many many more. I would recommend this book for any one interested in the craft and willing to be devoted to Wicca.
