I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Mama Katerina starts out with Evian, a young man, confronting Katerina Deshion in her office. We soon learn that Katerina is Evian’s mother, and he believes she is heartless where he is concerned. What follows is the story of Katerina’s youth and the events that cause her to distance herself from her beloved children.
This story was very well written and easy to read and understand. However, to be honest, the beginning of this book didn’t really hold my attention. I found myself skimming a lot of Katerina’s background, especially her childhood. When I got to the part of the story about Katerina’s relationship with Xavian, my interest perked up. I really was sitting at the edge of my seat when I got to the end of the story. I couldn’t believe how the story ended. I really want more of the story. It does have a cliffhanger ending. At this point, I don’t know if I’ll continue the story. While I do want to read more and know how it ends, I’m not sure if the second book will be the whole background story on Vivienne, Katerina’s sister. I wouldn’t mind reading about her life as an adult, but I’m leery of having to read about her childhood, their childhood again.

Up and coming author ELR Jones. This will not be the first time you see her name in her line of a hand full of books thus far. She has "It"--she is a classic talent along the lines of Alice Walker. Lyrical. Spiritual. A talented story weaver that will enchant you as well as have you yearn for more. This particular story flows nicely between the characters. It reads vivid, almost like a movie. I am anticipating more. Thank goodness I have her other books to read in between the publication of further books for The Craft Society of Divination. You will be enriched and satisfied with ELR Jones. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
